The
lives of 6 friends
Friends is a sitcom that deals
with the happenings in the lives of a group of six Friends in New
York, and the ones around them.
The story (adapted from one on
NBC.com):
The series focuses on the friendship of three men and three women
who frequently gather at each other's apartments and share sofa
space at Greenwich Village's Central Perk coffeehouse. Monica
Geller is a restaurant chef with an obsession for neatness and
order in her life. Her former roommate, Rachel Green, is Monica's
pampered best friend from high school who works at a department
store. Rachel ended a year-long romance with her longtime admirer
Ross, Monica's older brother, who in a rebound relationship,
quickly married his British girlfriend Emily. When Ross said
Rachel's name at the altar, Emily ran off and they divorced. Ross
later married Rachel while drunk in Las Vegas, and soon they got
an anullment.
Originally living across the hall from Monica and Rachel were
roommates Chandler Bing and Joey Tribbiani. Chandler, a dry wit
who is never at a loss for words, is a lovable wiseguy who works
as a corporate office worker. Joey is a struggling actor who
loves women, sports, New York and, most of all, himself. Rounding
out the circle of friends is Monica's ex-roommate, Phoebe Buffay,
an offbeat, eternally optimistic folk singer and massage
therapist, who gave birth to triplets as a surrogate mother for
her half-brother and his wife. Her 'hit' song "Smelly
Cat" got turned into a video, where she was replaced by a
woman with a better voice and better looks.
Most recently on the show, Chandler and Monica became involved in
a relationship, which led to their marriage. Due to this, a
number of roommate switches occurred. Chandler and Monica lived
in Monica and Rachel's old apartment, Rachel and Joey live across
the hall, Ross lives in the "Ugly Naked Guy"s apartment
across the alley, and Phoebe lives in another building. Since then Rachel
moved to and from Ross's a number of times as part of their on-again off-again
relationship.
A number of plot twists ensued, ultimately Ross
and Rachel had a baby together, Chandler and Monica adopted a baby and moved to
the suburbs, Phoebe married dream-boy Mike and they are planning children, and
Ross and Rachel, finally, got back together, this time (supposedly) for good.
Joey will be moving to LA to start a new spin-off series in Fall 2004.
