The
Minneapolis
Star Tribune have posted a very interesting article written by
Patrick in which he reveals why the theatre creates such a powerful bond
between actors and audience, and why television and film can never offer
that unique experience.
The article is taken partly from a speech he gave on 4 Dec 1997 to the National Press Club in Washington D.C. whilst there for 'Othello' at the Shakespeare Theatre. You can purchase an audio tape of that 1 hour NPC talk from Federal News Service at 1-888-343-1940 Thanks to Marie |

Star
Trek : Insurrection is due to be shown on Sky Premier Widescreen
on Thurs. 5th April at 6 pm.
Sky are showing John Boorman's Excalibur on Wed. 28 March @ 10 pm. on Sky Cinema 1 and then on 8 March @ 9 pm. on Sky Cinema 2. FYI: Stewart's daughter in the film - Guenevere - is played by Cherie Lunghi who also starred with him in 'A Canterville Ghost'. Anyone else remember her as the female manager of a soccer team in the rather good 1980's TV series called 'The Manager' ?.... |

Patrick's
next project - an update of Shakespeare's King Lear for TNT will
begin production in Mexico on April 19 under the new title 'King
of Texas'. This version will not use Shakespeare's text but has been
adapted by writer Stephen Harrigan and is set in 1840's Texas.

If
like me you want to find out more about J.B.Priestley and his play
'Johnson over Jordan' which Patrick will be starring in this Autumn
at the West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds,
I can highly recommend the biography by Judith Cook.
It's a fascinating insight in to the man and his career not only as a novelist and playwright, but a screenwriter, biographer, critic and essayist. UK high street discount bookstore
'The Works' have the hardback version (normally £22.50) for
the bargain price of £4.99 Alternatively Amazon
have the paperback for £7.19

The
Hallmark
channel are showing the multi award winning television version of Moby
Dick starring Stewart as the obsessed captain Ahab on Sat. 24
and Sun. 25 at 6pm.
TNT have an excellent web site devoted to the production with video clips, interviews with cast & crew, and background information on the classic novel. FYI: Gregory Peck who appears as Father Maple in this 1998 production not only played Capt. Ahab in the John Huston 1956 film but was originally intended to play the main role of Lear in Stewart's 'King of Texas' but decided to finally retire from acting last year. Carlton Cinema are also repeating Masterminds on Sun. 29 @ 11 pm. |

Thank
goodness for internet radio broadcasts. For those of us unable to plough
through the snow to Minneapolis to see Stewart in the current production
at the Guthrie Theater, at least we can listen to him talking on Minnesota
Public Radio's Mid Morning Show about 'Woolf' and his long career
as an actor.
Here's another excellent review of Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf:

So
finally it's here - the video and DVD of 'X-Men'
is on sale in the UK tomorrow - Monday 12 March. Judging by several
on-line retail sites it's already topping the chart of pre-release orders.
The DVD edition is well worth the money with excellent Dolby Digital 5.1 sound, great picture quality and interactive menus plus lots of extra features including several 'cut scenes' which can be restored into the film or viewed separately. Well done Fox. About time Paramount offered the same with the Trek DVD releases.... X-Men grossed £15m at the UK box office last year - 8th place for UK cinema takings. |

The
Minneapolis Star Tribune have the first review
of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?' published online.
Meanwhile the nice folk over at Minnesota Public Radio have audio interviews with Patrick, Mercedes Ruehl and director David Esbjornson, plus a slideshow of rehearsals for the newly open play. Anyone in the Minnesota area
looking for an in depth discussion of the play may want to attend "A
Psychoanalytic Exploration of 'Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?",
a post lunch event featuring Stewart and Joe Dowling - artistic director
of the Guthrie Theater.

According
to the Independent newspaper
(28 Feb.) not only will Patrick be appearing in J.B. Priestley's 'Johnson
Over Jordan' at the West Yorkshire Playhouse
in Leeds this Autumn, but thanks to a 'virtual performance' on
film he'll also appear as the wizard in the playhouse production of
'The Wizard of Oz' around Christmas time.
