Epilogue

After all this time, this is what it came down to,
A man with cherished memories too few.
Those that could have been but never were,
Always too far, to care or hear.
The murmurs from deep within,
The light slowly growing dim.
The lust for life fading surely.
Growing inside the feeling of the alone and lonely,
The grass was once a lush green,
The eyes were simple and clean.
The skies held a pure blue,
The roads were never too few.
A dank abandoned path is all I see,
Lost on the way, all sense of mystery.
Knowing it will end, end too soon,
Knowing I won't see the new moon.
Can't complain. I had my day,
Took it too easy. Threw it away.
Choices were mine to make,
This life, mine to break.
Break it did. Into a million pieces and then some,
At last the day of reckoning has come.
Rejoice should I? Go out with a bang?
From this wonderfully opportune land.
I think not. Choked for want of wind,
And they're catching up all the time from behind.
Yes, its time to succumb and accept defeat,
Pray for another chance to sweat it out in the heat.
