Nearer than Before
And when your gone, it would go on,
Life would continue, new days would dawn.
Silent observers would stare like before,
Could be like this forever more.
Someone somewhere would miss you,
Miss watching the things you'd go on to do.
He would be too far away to be there,
It was always by your side, or no where.
Answers have been chosen for him,
Variables given with which he could never win.
It's like an obsession that drives his body,
He will give in, but only when he's ready.
Responsibility is new to him, he needs time,
Resigning now would amount to a heinous crime.
He starves all day long,
It's not easy getting the food he feeds on.
He hungers for your eyes, your love, your hand,
He knows you'll never be there, but he can't understand.
Didn't you show him the way to the sacred pasture,
The haeven from where there is no departure.
He smiles, not in contempt or regret,
He has learned the hard way to accept.
As he holds a dying flower and smells it,
Looks at the candle that was never lit,
He crawls back into the hole from where he came,
Things he knows would always be the same.
