Ramadhan 1419
Ramadhan is the ninth month of the Islamic year.
Muslims must fast the whole month of Ramadhan. Fasting is
the fourth pillar of Islam. The Holy Quran was sent
down in the month of Ramadhan. The Prophet Muhammad
(p.b.u.h.) told us to start the fast on seeing the new
moon of the month of Ramadhan and continue to fast until
we see the new moon of the month of Shawwaal. Muslims
have to fast from sunrise to sunset. We cant eat
any food or drink all day. Every muslim must fast in the month of Ramadhan except for: -
We knew that Ramadhan started on Sunday Dec 20th 1998 because my Dad found out that the moon was sighted Saturday evening. Since the first day of Ramadhan, I fasted many days. I usually wake up at 5:30 a.m. when my alarm rings. Then I have Suhoor (breakfast) which I have to finish eating ten minutes before Fajr salah. Then my mom, my dad, and I pray Fajr salah. I then recite surahs from the Holy Quran. Usually by this time I am very sleepy and I go back to bed. I get very hungry around 3 p.m. and I cant wait for Iftar time to break my fast. I like to break my fast with my whole family including my grandparents. I phone my grandparents everyday to come to our house for Iftar , sometimes they are too tired to come but they still want to make me happy. At Iftar time I like to break my fast with samosa, dates and tea. Sometimes I go to Taraweeh salah with my dad. Taraweeh salah is special for the month of Ramadhan. It is Sunnah to go to Taraweeh salah. Taraweeh salah consists of eight or twenty Rakahs. Eid Ul- Fitr is the feast after the fasting of the month Ramadhan. It is on the 1st of Shawwaal which is the month after Ramadhan. |
