NABI - PROPHET RASUUL -Messenger terms used freely to describe the Prophet Muhammed salla alaihi Wa salem . NADA -literally "to wind" the turban .To appoint . An official ceremony to appoint a chief (Nigeria) NADI -an official position, the ceremony itself. RAWANI The turban is not worn by women generally except in special ways for example by JAJIS in the Asmawian tradition . NADHAFA -related to the concept of TAHARA especially bodily cleanliness. NAFIL - superogatory or optional prayers, fasts ,ect. that may be performed in addition to the obligatory FARD salat ,fasts. NAFS - NATURE ,human nature . NAFS- dictate to you ,interfere with your DHKR, Nafs- forbid you from worshipping Allah, Nafs -are involved in both prosperity and misery, NAFS- can confiscate your heart and make your worship[insincere.]..."sweep the doorstep of the infidels with your virtues "...and walls a million deserts of dissapointment to the end " -Ahmed Samani 1146 Nafs -The ego self . A force in human nature which wants that person to harm himself religiously.Any thing in the personality which challenges submission to Allah.. NAFS AMMARA The unruly animal self this has no concienceand is impatient of limitation and restriction . NAFS LAWWAMA -The struggleing moral self repents after sin NAFS MUTMAINNA -Composed ,Allah realised ,Peace,purity, rectitude ,knowlege NAFAL SALAT alt. sp. NAFIL - Superogatory , more than required . eg extra Rakat in salat .FARD means the obligatory SALAT. NAJIYA -Relative to the sects mentioned in the hadith . This word refers to those who will be saved from condemnation to hell (gehenna )for making heresy with sects and divisions Generally NAJIYYA means orthodox -that is the 4 madhabs and in sufism those lawful sufi orders . NAJAAT - to acquire NAJAAT means that you will go to heaven . The mantle of Taqleed . NAJIYAH -Being saved from GEHENNA (hell) The one sect of Islam that will not go to hell. The religion professed by Muhammed ,salla alaihi wa salem and the Sahabi. All sects believe themselves to be truely Najiyah . Tradition says only one . NAQL -transmission , tradition as opposed to or next to 'AQL -reasoning KASHF- true unveiling along with NAQL and AQL of the word of Allah (Qur'anic revelation) insight of a high order . NAQEEB-UL -leader NASIR - One of the divine names for Allah .It means Allah is the helper . NEELI - alt spelling NILI . A very particular shade of green considered by Egyptian fellaheen to be very bad luck . In the 11th century; a famine in Egypt caused the Nile to change from its normal blue color to a strange color of green .Crops died the Nile smelled bad . There were two years of famine . Historical accounts of that famine reported cases where children were sold into slavery to prevent them starving to death and other cases where children were cannibalized .So for one thousand years this is a cultural memory of that famine .Nili green is considered bad luck. NASAB - lineage or geneology NASS -a general term for an AYAT or HADITH which states whether something is ordered or prohibited NASIHAH -Sincere , good advice from one Muslim to another . The duty of all muslims in their social relations is to forbid evil and encourage good . NASIYHA - the front of the head, see 96:15-16, this site http://voiceofallah.com/science.htm In this case refers to the evils of selfish agressive egotism and the violence and agression in human plotting and lies. not properly transliterated ?.
NAZAR -To see , profound understanding of principles. NASIHAT -Giving advice to a fellow Muslim. You must not tell people about their fault directly ,but you must be tactful and indirect. For example, you generally would not name a person who comitted the deed . You make an example from a similar case and allude to it indirectly . You would say "a long time ago in a far away unrelated situation "So-And-So (no names )did this particular sin ( details left out to protect the guilty ) All good Muslims avoid gossip . This teqnique is highly refined in Sufism . A good Sufi NASEEHA uses the self as an example rather than the individual in question . Thereby establishing several spiritual principles . Tact, humility , fixing ones own faults in prefference to others ,example ,kindness, firmness without creating rebellion,resentment or hostility .Humor is excellent . Naseeha : "once there was this president in a mushrik country ......" NAZR -Offered at a Shrine NIFAAQ -hypocrsy . A person is said to be NIFAAQ when they are indifferent to moral improvement . A person who is content with mere letters and words and book Knowlege ; These are are the ways of NIFAAQ . A person who practices the DIN with false motives -to acquire a worldly benifits. NIFAAQ creates enmity and hypocrisy in society . He is not bothered with spiritual self reform and moral progress . Knowlege in this case has no benifit . The cure for NIFAAQ is DHIKR .Acts are judged by their motives -hadith. all good Muslims give careful consideration to their motives when they take up any action . NI'MAT RABNAA -Allah's blessing ,refers to wheat or bread ;when dropped on the ground is picked up,kissed and blessed. Bread has to be laid on a cloth . Sufi Muslims do not waste food .or running water . NIQAAB -The face veil worn by gulf Arab women ,Bedouins and Maghrebi women and some Afro- American muslims .Enter NIQAB as a search subject . NISBAH -urdu , a person , "relationship" , viewpoint, an emotional attatchment is NISBAT NIYYAT -to intend . To make NIYYAT means to make a declaration of intent to Allah before doing some action of a religious nature . . For example niyyat is a requirement before each day of Ramadan and before SALAT . NIYYAT must be made in the case of any Islamic act ,the NIKAH ,giving ZAKAT ,HAJJ ect. Also befor reading Qur'an ,taking GHUSL ect. See: Ihya Ulum ud-Din by Al Ghazzali .you should always make niyyat even if it is made silently or in English . Formal Arabic Niyyat will be found in books explaining how to make salat . NIZAM AL MULK 1018-92 wrote : Siyas et Nameh (book of counsel for kings ) Vizier to Seljuk Sultans, Alp Arslan and Malik Shah . considerable changes in IQTA (land grants) were made . Nizamiyya madrassas were established throughout the empire . NIZAMA -"order" "system " NUBUWWAT - prophethood NUSHUZ -defiance arrogance ,rebellion ,disobedience,open lewdness, obscenity, infidelity ,adultery Abdullah ibn ‘Amr, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "A Muslim is a person who does not harm another Muslim with his tongue or his hands, and an emigrant is one who leaves that which Allah has forbidden." Saheeh Muslim and Saheeh Bukhari Harisa ibn Wahb, may Allah be pleased with him, related that the Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "shall I tell you who are the dwellers of Paradise? They are every person who is considered weak and is despised, but who, if he takes an oath of reliance upon Allah, then he fulfills it. Now shall I tell you who are the persons destined for Hell? They are everyone who is ignorant, impertinent, proud and arrogant. Saheeh Muslims and Saheeh Bukhari. Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, related that: "A poor woman came to me with her two daughters. I gave her three dates. She gave one to each girls and wanted to eat the third herself. The two girls asked her for this also. So she divided it into two parts and gave one to each of the girls. I was much impressed by her action and mentioned it to the Holy Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. He said, ‘Allah has ordained Paradised for her in consequence of this action’: or ‘Allah has freed her from hell on account of this gesture." Saheeh Muslim.
NABAA (AL): "The Tidings". Surah 78 of the Holy Qur’an. NABI: Prophet. There have been many prophets since the world was first created. Their exact number is not mentioned either in the Holy Qur’an or in any of the authentic Ahadith (sayings and traditions of the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace ). Only twenty-five of them are actually named in the Holy Qur’an, may the blessing and peace of Allah be on all of them. NAFAR: A small group of people, usually between three and ten in number. NAFILAH: Optional Salat. They are of two types: (1.) Sunnah - the optional Salat that one does before and after the Fard Salat. These voluntary Salat fall into two categories: (a.) Muakkad - confirmed. These types of Salat were always regularly done by Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. (b.) Ghair-Muakkad - not confirmed. Those types of Salat were often, but not always, practiced by the Prophet Muhammad. (2.) Others - any other Salat that one may wish to perform; for example, doing two Rak’at before making a Du’a. With the exceptions of the Witr prayer, Nafilah prayers always consist of two Rak’at at a time. See Witr. Plural: Nawafil. NAFL: A gift. From the same root as Anfal, meaning booty taken in war. It means a voluntary act of Ibadah. See Nafilah. NAFRA: (1.) The 12th or 13th of Dhul’l Hijjah when the Hujjaj (pilgrims) leave Mina. (2.) To go forth and be ready to strive and suffer in the way of Allah Ta’ala. See Holy Qur’an, At-Taubah (9):39. NAHD: Sharing traveling expenses by putting the money or food into kitty and distributing them equally among the travelers. NAHI’ANIL MUNKAR: Forbidding the evil. The full phrase is "Amr bil Ma’roof was Nahi ‘Anil Munakr" (enjoining the good and forbidding the evil). NAHL (AL): "The Bee". Surah 16 of the Holy Qur’an. NAHNU: "We". The plurality of respect and honour. Allah Ta’ala uses "We" to express His honour and greatness. It is not the plurality of numbers, for Allah is One and Unique. There is nothing like Him and there is none comparable to Him. Allah did not beget nor was He begotten. NAHR: Slaughtering camels. The Day of Nahr takes place on the 10th of Dhu’l-Hijjah, when Hujjaj sacrifice camels, goats, sheep, etc., as one of the rites of the Hajj. See Eid al-Adha, Hajj. NAJWA:1) A private talk between Allah the Almigthy and one of His slaves on the Day of Ressurection. See Saheeh Bukhari. 2) A secretive talk among the Kuffar plotting against the Holy prophet Muhammad and his followers,may the blessings and peace of Allah be on him and them.. See Surah al-Mujadalah(58):8 NAKIR: One of the two angels who will question us in our graves. See Munkar wa Nakir. NAML (AL): "The Ants". Surah 27 of the Holy Qur’an. NAQIB: (1). leader of a small group of men going on a expedition. (2). Tribal chief. NAR: Literally means fire, but usually means the Fire of the next world, including all seven levels of Hellfire as a whole. NAS (AN): "Mankind". Surah 114 of the Holy Qur’an. There are three different levels of mankind: Mutaqoon - people who fear Allah Ta’ala and do not commit Kabair (major sins). Mukhalatoon - people who commit Kabair (major sins), in spite of their belief in Allah. Kuffar - unbelievers, who do not believe in Allah. Not only do they commit Kabair, but also they commit the greatest wrong action of all, Shirk. NASARA: Christian. NASI’A (RIBA AL): A type of interest on loaned money. This is completely Haram. See Holy Qur’an, Al-Baqara (2):275-280, Aali’Imran (3):130. NASKH: A type of curved writing often used for early hand-written copies of the Holy Qur’an. NASR (AN): "Help" . Surah 110 of the Holy Qur’an. NAWAFIL: Plural of Nafilah. See Nafilah. NAZI’AT: "Those who tear out". Surah 79 of the Holy Qur’an. NIBADH: A sale whereby a deal is finalized by the seller throwing the sold object towards the buyer, thus giving him no opportunity of seeing, touching or checking it before the sale is concluded. NIFAQ: Hypocrisy. One of the greatest sins in the sight of Allah Ta’ala. The Punishment for Nifaq is the lowest pit of an-Nar (hellfire), the Hutama. NIFAQ (KUFR AL): A Major Kufr. Disbelief through hyprocrisity. See Kufr. NIKAH: Marriage according to the law of Allah Ta’ala. The courtesies and requirements regarding Nikah are extensive and cannot be fully explained in this book. See Holy Qur’an, Al-Baqara (2):221, An-Nisa (4):3 20-25, 35, 128-129, Al-Ma’idah (5):6, An-Nur (24):3, 32:33, Al-Ahzab (33):28-29, 49-52. NIQAB: A type of Hijab (veil) that covers the entire face, as opposed to the Khimar, which leaves the eyes exposed. NISAA (AN): "Women". Surah 4 of the Holy Qur’an. NIYYAH: The intention of the heart. It is by their Niyyah that Allah Ta’ala judges the actions of Ins wal’l-Jinn (mankind and the Jinn). NIYYAH WAL IRAADA WAL QASD (SHIRK AL): A Major Shirk. Having the intention and determination to deliberately do any type of act of worship to a deity other than Allah Ta’ala. See Shirk. NOOH, PEACE BE ON HIM: "Noah". A Messenger as well as a prophet. Surah 71 of the Holy Qur’an. NOON: Fish. See Dhul’l-Noon. NUR (AN): "An-Nur". The Light. One of the ninety-nine Attributes of Allah. This is such a complex attribute that it is impossible to explain it in one volume. Its spiritual meaning is only understood by Allah Ta’ala Himself, for "Allah is of the heavens and the earth". See Ayat an-Nur at the start of "R" (an-Nur (24):35-36). Surah 24 of the Holy Qur’an. NUSK: An Act of worship. Singular of Nusuk. See Nusuk. NUSUK: A general sacrifice in the path of Allah. All the deeds and actions of Hajj are regarded as Nusuk, for they are indeed regarded as sacrifices in the path of Allah Subhana wa Ta’ala. Plural: Manasik. NUZOOL: The revelation of the Holy Qur’an.The Revelation of the Holy Quran was in three stages: It was written on the Lauh al-Mahfudha, i.e. on the Guarded tablet in the Seven Heaven. On the Lailatul Qadar Allah Ta’ala sent the entire Qur’an down to the Baitul "Izza in the first Heaven. During the month of Ramadan Allah Ta’ala ordered the Holy Spirit, the Angel Jibreel (Gabriel), peace be on him, to start to reveal the Qur’an to the Holy Prophet Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, but not all at once. The entire revelation of the Holy Qur’an took twenty-three years
