The local council of the Old Town in Oslo has granted permission for a weekly prayer call from the mosque of the World Islamic Mission. This means that the prayer call will be allowed once every Friday. The prayer call, the azan, shall be made around midday Friday, and last no more than three minutes. Traditionally the azan is made five times a day. At the same time, the council also granted the Heathen Society permission to call out prior to a meeting that there is no God. There had been some opposition to allowing the Islamic prayer call through loudspeakers, and last Saturday around 150 people demonstrated in downtown Oslo against giving permission.
