Staff Sgt. Barry Sanford, 46, of Aurora, Colo., died Monday of a non-combat-related gunshot wound, according to a statement from Fort Campbell. The incident occurred near Balad, Iraq, said John Minton, a spokesman for the post.

Sanford was an Automated Logistical Specialist with the 101st Corps Support Group. He arrived at Fort Campbell on the Kentucky-Tennessee border about 50 miles northwest of Nashville in December 2002 _ four years after entering the Army.

Minton would not release any specifics of the investigation, only to say that the shooting was either accidental or a suicide.

Private Robert L. McKinley, 23, of Kokomo, Ind., died Tuesday at a hospital in Homberg, Germany. McKinley suffered a heat stroke in Mosul, Iraq, in mid-June, and was transported to Germany for further medical treatment.

McKinley was an infantryman assigned to the 101st Airborne Division. He arrived at Fort Campbell in January of 2003 after entering the Army in November 2002.
