Monty Davis

My wife and I received my holiday draft notice greeting from L. B. J. before Christmas in 1965 and I was drafted in the Army on Jan. 12, 1966.

My basic training was at Ft. Jackson S.C. and signal training at Ft. Jackson and Ft Gordon Ga. I then was assigned to the 40th Signal at Ft. Polk La.

In Aug of 1966 my company left Ft Polk on a train to Oakland Calif. There we boarded a ship the (General Patrick) and arrived at Qui Nhon after 21 days at sea. Needless to say I was not in any hurry to get there. After being in country several months many of the men in the company were rotated to other outfits so we would not be leaving at the same time.  Sure hated to see some of my buddies leave our company!

The 40th Signal Battalion was a construction company and we ran cable in the Qui Nhon area and on the 1st Cav. base at An Khe. After returning to the States my remaining time was at Camp A. P. Hill in Va. until I was discharged on Jan. 11 1968.

Hey, we are still married after 37 years, our family is complete with a son and a daughter.
