I was with the 41st at Cam Ranh Bay from June 1965 until my
ETS came. I was released from the army, which I detested with a
passion, on 29 Jan 1966. I was drafted on 3 Feb 64, and thought I
had escaped my duties in Vietnam, for I turned down OCS and did
everything in my power to NOT participate in that immoral war.
However, after I was married on 26 Dec 1964, I found myself on the
U.S.S. Breckonridge, a troopship ride of 23 miserable days,
destination being Vietnam, a tiny country that I am very sorry I
ever heard of. That was to be the beginning of the end for my
fragile psyche NEVER got over it. I wish that were the end of my
"tale." However, it's just the beginning, unfortunately.
If anybody knows the whereabouts of Richard Jackson, another draftee
like myself, I'd like to hear from him. Thank you.
