I went to Nam the latter part of April 1968 . I
was talking to my S-4 who was 1st Lt Dale. He told me that just
before I got there the Battalion Commander apparently wanted to
get some punches in his card and he wanted the signal types to
patrol around the compound. They apparently had monthly briefings
from the 199th Light Infantry rep. and one of the guys asked the
rep what he thought about us patrolling the area outside the compound.
He told them to stay the hell away from that . They had the responsibility
for the safety of the compound and they would blow us away if
they encountered us. Needles to say all the officers attending
were extremely happy.
