No nation that was involved in the Second World War had as much aerial influence on the war as did the United States.  Geographically isolated from its enemies in the war, the Americans produced modern and effective fighting aircraft in factories free from falling bombs and shortages of materiel. America built a great variety of aircraft in the war- some of them hardly known to anybody- and some as immortal as the P-51 Mustang and F4U Corsair.
