It is truely remarkable how Germany managed to rise from the devastation it suffered through the Great War. Nazi Germany secretly developed submarines, heavy fighting ships, and advanced aircraft in violation of the Treaty of Versailles without the knowledge of other European nations. When Germany did finally announce it had 'cast away the shackles' of the Treaty of Versailles, it had already developed a military might to be envied. At the beginning of the war, the excellence in manufacture and design of the German aircraft was greatly evident, as they shot down the French and Polish aircraft in flaming droves.
