DAVID SEAL
Position: Striker
Club: Northampton Town
Born: Penrith, Australia, 26th. January 1972
Debut vs AFC Bournemouth (home)

Cobblers record signing when he signed from Bristol City in September 1997 for £90,000 part way through his loan period having scored four goals in just five starts (one being against Bristol City!) A natural goal scorer most of which are spectacular. Signed for the Robins, bought from Eendracht Aalast for £80,000 in October 1994. He went on to score 14 goals in just 26 starts during the 1995/96 season, finishing top scorer. However, he did not start a match during 1996/97 and only used as substitute on 13 occasions before he was granted a transfer. Finished 1997/98 as leading scorer with 12 goals. In addition he also finished top scorer in the reserves with 12 goals from 10 games.

David joined the club on a pay-as you play deal, which could lead to him being the club's record signing. David was meant to have signed in the close season, but doubt over the condition of his knee lead to a loan period to prove his fitness. The loan spell was successful in both terms of David's fitness and goal scoring performance. Following the permanent move David went through a number of baron spells, and was substituted on many occasions. When on form, David is one of the best strikers in the Division, scoring spectacular goals. The impressive start to the season led to him becoming a cult hero, and the sale of toy seals in the club shop. He holds the bizarre record of being leading first and reserve team scorer in 1997/8

Many Cobblers' fans would like to see David playing regularly, and this may well trigger a call up to the Australian squad. However, Ian Atkins has seemed reluctant to pick him, he was sent off inside the first two minutes, for an incident with the Lancaster City keeper. David has not played since February 13.
