At Parnell Park on Sunday, St Anthony's of Reading and Fr Murphys played out a thriller in the final of the Murphy Cup. The condiitons were atrocious but full credit to both teams for their sporting and spirited displays.

Fr Murphys led at the interval by 1-2 to 0-2 thanks mainly to a well taken goal by Darren Howlin who rounded Bart Ballantine to crash the ball past the helpless Anthonys goalkeeper.

On the resumption a ding dong struggle ensued with both sides playing their hearts out but the superior fitness of the Fr Murphys saw them through. Best for Fr Murphys were Mick O'Hanlon, Colm Galligan, John Moore, Darren and Jimmy Howlin and Tom Neville. St Anthonys were best served by Ian Carroll, Bart Ballantine, Vince McGrath and Mick Dempsey.
