Animal network holds spay, neuter campaign

For a second anniversary, Animal Aid Network will hold a Spay Sally for $15 campaign.

AAN has just receive a grant for $7,500 from the Arizona Community Foundation, which made this project possible.  AAN is a local, all-volunteer, non-profit animal welfare organization dedicated to ending animal overpopulation in the Verde Valley.  Hundreds of thousands of private funds and public tax dollars are dedicated to animal control annually.

AAN's philosophy is prevention of unwanted animal births.

The campaign has several requirements.

AAN will spay 100 female dogs and 100 female cats on a first-come, first-served basis.  All Verde Valley residents are eligible.

Only one female pet per household can take advantage of this special price.  Other female pets and males can be sterilized for the regular prices, $25 for a male cat, $45 fro a female cat and male dog and $60 for a female dog.

All applicants must pick up their certificate at Four Paws Emporium, 927 N. Main Street in Old Town Cottonwood.  Hours are Monday through Thursday from 1 to 4 PM; Friday from 10 AM to 3 PM and Saturday from 10 AM to 1 PM.  The $15 fee must be paid in cash prior to receiving a certificate.

All sterilizations are performed at the Verde Veterinary Hospital in Cottonwood.

Due to the high volume of calls expected and the limited number of volunteers, those interested should not  call Animal Aid Network, Four Paws Emporium or the Verde Veterinary Hospital.

When those who are interested apply in person, all questions will be answered and instructions will be provided on how to redeem the certificate.

Do not make an appointment at the Verde Veterinary Hospital prior to receiving a certificate.

If the pet is pregnant or in heat, extra fees will be charged by the veterinarian and are the responsibility of the owner.  The certificate only pays the cost of a basic sterilization.

"In less than two years, Animal Aid Network has sterilized over 550 pets at reduced rates and has already received its first grant.  The key to our success is a dedicated, proactive volunteer board of directors and a veterinarian who shared our philosophy and was willing to give us reduced rates,"  said AAN President Deborah Engle.

For donations, tax-deductible, unwanted items should go to Four Paws Emporium in Old Town Cottonwood.

For more information, call the AAN at 639-3980.  Calls concerning Spay Sally cannot be returned.
