the Federalist Papers

Alexander Hamilton

James Madison

John Jay

The Federalist Papers were written and published from 1787 through 1788 in several New York newspapers to persuade New York voters to ratify the proposed constitution. Hamilton, Madison and Jay were the primary authors of these 85 essays; outlining how this new government would operate and why this type of government was the best choice for these United States. All the essays were signed PUBLIUS; the general consensus is that Hamilton wrote 52, Madison 28 and Jay 5 although debate is possible. The Federalist Papers are an excellent reference for everyone; from historians to students.
