BITUPITÁ BEACH(Este texto em português)
Bitupitá (Bee-thoo-pee-tah), in the indians language, means "Gust of wind on hill of sand". It is a beach on the shore of Barroquinha municipality, 440Km (275 Mi.) away from Fortaleza. Its previous name was Alma (Souls), later becoming Perobas and finaly Bitupitá. It has population of approximately 6 thousand inhabitants and its principal economic activity is fishine, primarily of "camurupim" (robalo), prectised in 39 fishing region, they also catch "sarda sarda", bonito, sword-fish, (sting) ray, hammerhead (shark), lobster, sardine, and it counts with inspections of the IBAMA (Brazilian Enviroment Protection Institute) to press the capture of "Aruanã" (Sea turtle), a species ins the process of extinction which is abundant in the region, Its patron saint is St. Joseph and there are two religious feasts a year: that of our Landy of the Victory in May, and that of St. Adelaide, a charitable woman who lived in the town at the start of this century and who began to be revered as a saint after her death in 1929, and whose feast is celebrated in August. There is the "Caribe" industry in Bitupitá, which produces in the form of bars and also a saw-mill where the fishing-boats are built. In operation there is Fishing Colony No. Z-21, and the city counts with more than 100 parabolocal antennas. Barroquinha municipality emancipated itself from Camocim in 1988 and has 12 thousand voters, with a Town Council of 7 Aldermen. Bitupitá still has a limited tourist activity but, even so, has 3 hotels: Bitupitá Hotel, Bitupitá Hotel and Central Hotel. Its main tourist attractions are: the Lighthouse, the Fishing Pens, "Arrombados" Beach, "Curimãs" Beach, Souls point, Big Island, The river os the souls, the Lake of remedies, the Bell Stone, The lake of Bulls and the Bar of Remedies
