Autocross
Information
What is an Autocross?
An
autocross is a timed competitive event.
It consists of a course made of soft rubber cones, which does not
damage your vehicle if you run over them.
An autocross is generally run in an open area such as a large
parking lot or an airport runway, the latter being the best choice.
Each autocross course has a completely new design for each event,
so each autocross is different in nature, just like each situation is
different in the real world.
What
does an autocross require?
An auto cross requires three things, it requires you to think and
plan for your next move, it requires a properly maintained car, and it
requires a helmet. Helmets can be shared between participants, but it
recommended that you bring your own. Helmets rated SA-90 and above are
acceptable until the end of this calendar year. For 2001 SA-95 and above
ratings will be required, SA-90 rated helmets will no longer allowed.
----If the event is run by the PCA, then a SA-90 helmet too old, it must
be a SA-95 or above.----
Where
do BMW FSC autocrosses take place?
The
Suncoast chapter currently uses two locations to autocross.
The first location is at Mac Dill AFB in Tampa. In order to gain
access to Mac Dill, you must be put on our access list. Please

than a year since you last came to an autocross.
The second location is
at Buckingham Airfield in Ft. Myers, these events are held by the Gulf
Coast Auto crossers. If you are on the club e-mail list directions to
each location will be sent to you before each event. If you would like
to add your named to the e-mail list contact Jackie Parker at jtparker@concentric.net.
How
much does it cost and what time should I be there?
The cost is $20 at Mac Dill, and $25 at Buckingham. You should
report to each location at 8am to sign in and have your cat tech
inspected.
