The Furnace

Ó1996 Scott of the ULC Church of Amazement

--A Circle is Cast--

From awareness to anger.
From anger to action.
From action to futility.
From futility to frustration.
From frustration to anger.
set in motion by the
observance of thought
turning to deed
turning to a greater awareness of an inconsequential
struggle against the righteous Reich.

There is NO profit in caring!
There is NO market for kindness!
There is NO cost effective, win-win situation in equality!

--All that Exists--

is the overwhelming,
non-renewable resource fueled
Furnace of Greed.

are the masses of twigs...
stripped, bundled, and
divided up for fucking kindling.

some fuel for the fire...
You know, those damn illegals
and fags and OJ.

And, a select few of us who have
already been sucked into the flames
and spit back out. Those of us who
survived REFUSE to be burned again.

--Perhaps--

Perhaps, as free-thinking individuals we won’t.
But the Furnace, in its putrid infinite holiness,
spews out of its sulfur-stained stacks
a could of sweet-smelling defecation that
serves as an effective, undetectable smokescreen.

As free-thinking individuals,
we can see through the cloud of noxious gas
and gaze directly on the Furnace himself.

--Cough, Gasp, Wheeze, and Hack--

Inevitably, as we band together to
fight the righteous beast, its smoky
excrement diffuses...
and a small cloud broken off from the whole
engulfs each of us...
and it is though the Furnace no longer
even is. We are now engulfed in
our very own,
personal, aura of shit.

-- The Shit of Many Colors--

It seeps in through our eyes and ears and
settles in our synapses so all we see is
our own little world through shit-colored
glasses. And since we all see different shit,
we cannot fight collectively anymore
because MY shit OBVIOUSLY deserves more
attention than YOUR shit. Division occurs,
and the Furnace has more fuel for the fire,
and he keeps on burning.

--As the Circle Slowly Sinks--

From awareness to anger.
From anger to action.
From action to futility.
From futility to frustration.
From frustration to...

--Let us Pray--

...to sight.
From sight to vision.
From vision to wisdom.
From wisdom to enlightenment.
From enlightenment to peace.
From peace to sight...
