What's up with Finders Keepers & Knight Tyme ?

I don't know about you, but I like it a lot to know where games come from.
(If you don't like it, please skip this section ;)

Hard core MSX players might remember the old game Finders Keepers, which was produced by Mastertronic in 1985.
... and if you remember that, you will probably remember a game called Knight Tyme, by Mastertronic, 1986.

This is the ancient Finders Keepers.
Finders Keepers was a rather weak game, with modest graphics and tedious music, but Knight Tyme was a great adventure game.

I always heard a rumor that Knight Tyme was a sequel to Finders Keepers, but there was another game between them, which was never released on the MSX.

In fact this is true, and I thought it would be interesting to put the whole story in here.

In Finders Keepers, you are the Magic Knight, and your mission is to find a birthday present to Princess Germintrude, daughter of the King of Isbisima.

Seeing this as a chance to finally enter the famed "Poligon Table", the Magic Knight agrees to be transported to the Castle of Spriteland, and collect some treasure to please the King and the Princess.

You have two choices: you can do as you are told, or you can grab the treasure for yourself, and escape the Castle.

No matter how you finish this game, the Magic Knight's saga continues on Spellbound, which was only released on ZX Spectrum computers.

In this game the Magic Knight's tutor, Gimbal the Wizard was trying some very old spells to make his rice pudding taste nicer, when he is accidentally sent to the Castle of Karn.

Your mission here is to rescue Gimbal and seven other people which were dragged with him.

Here is Spellbound !

Knight Tyme.
But Spellbound is not the end of the Magic Knight's adventures, as he is misteriously thrown into the future,  - 25th century to be more precise - and must find his way back by finding the Tyme Guardians.

The Tyme Guardians hold the Tyme machine, which has the power to send Magic Knight back to his correct time.

This is the story of Knight Tyme, which was released on MSX computers.

At the end of Knight Tyme, the Magic Knight finally escapes from the future.

... And this is the beginning of Stormbringer, which was released on MSX, but it is a very hard to find game. (The screenshot on the right was taken from the Spectrum version)

In Stormbringer, as soon as the Magic Knight returns to his peaceful village of Cornhamp -On - Marsh, he finds it conquered by the Off-White Knight, also known as... Stormbringer.

 Stormbringer.

Stormbringer is identical to Magic Knight, because he is the evil side of his own personality ! The goal of this game is to join the Magic Knight and Stormbringer back in one person. Some people say this is the best part of the Magic Knight's adventures.

The concept of this game is the same as Knight Tyme: collect the items and use them at the right places. However, the puzzles are much more challenging.

Will a new sequel to this saga be written ? I guess not, but it would be nice if it happens.

Anyway, here it is, now you know all about the legendary Magic Knight and his adventures!
Isn't this web site trully educational ? ;)
