In case you were wondering where the title came from, this is the second incarnation of the story. The first, entitled In Sunshine or in Shadow, was a much darker, much more angst ridden story, that quite frankly just didn't work for us. (Although, since finishing El Dorado, we've been giving some thought to maybe going back and seeing what we could do to re-work ISOIS.)

HIERARCHY OF FOUNDERS

Rank Duties

Elders Elders are the original 100 changelings. The repositories of all knowledge, they never leave the link and have little contact with others of their species.

Wisdom Elders in Training. They are the recordkeepers and administrators of the Link. Members of this rank are the only Founders that have direct contact with the Elders.

Justice Administrators for matters outside the Link. This rank deals directly with the Vorta. The Female Founder seen throughout DS9 is of this rank.

Guardian Highest of the Probe Class of Founder. The Duty of the Guardian is to keep tabs on all Founders in the Field.

Power Next highest rank of the Probe Class. Always in the field, it is the primary duty of the Power rank to protect the Dominion from outside threat. They act as spies. The Founder who posed as Colonel Lovok is of this rank (Die is Cast)

Principal Probe Class changeling with full knowledge of who and what they are. Function in the field as assistants to the Power Class.

Secondary A Probe who has complete their first incarnation. Their skills as a changeling are sharper than those of the Supernumerary, but not as selfaware or as skilled as a Principal.

Supernumerary The lowest lifeform of a Founder. They function primarily as probes. Their skills as changelings are minimal and they have little awareness of who or what they truly are.
