Chapter V is part of Region D which includes chapters in Michigan, Ohio, and Indiana.
Our meetings are at the Freeland Memorial Building. ( It is sometimes called the Freeland Community Center, or Freeland Community Building). On Park St. in Freeland. This is approximately 100 yards south of the light in Freeland on the right hand side of the road. Meetings start at 7pm. In November and December, we have a dinner at 7, followed by a regular meeting at 7:45pm.
We have a dedicated staff who do their best to offer a variety of rides and activities for the members and their families.
When our members aren't doing what they love most, riding their Goldwings, it's only natural for their thoughts to turn to past years, past fun, and all the friends they have met through the years. Some of these recollections, and even a note from some old friends, can be found in their Random Thoughts.
The History of Chapter V
What is now called chapter V started out as the Voyagers Goldwing Road Riders Touring Club. The club was sponsored by Bay Cycle sales of Bay City, Michigan. The club first had their meetings at Bay Cycle in the showroom after the business closed. The club officers were as follows: President - Bud Bowers, Vice President - Clark Wentz, Treasurer - Jim Garrison, Roger Rodriquez as sponsors. Their first newsletter was published on July 28, 1983 by Bob Hay.
Roger Mower worked with the State Staff when they decided to join the Gold Wing Road Riders Association. The only thing they wanted to keep from there touring club was their name of the Voyagers. I'm told that this was not an easy task, first we had the letter o assigned to the chapter. Then they gave us the letter p and finally we were assigned the letter V because we were the Voyagers.
Chapter V's first newsletter was published April 10, 1984. Today we send out over 120 newsletters to National and State Staff, along with all the other Michigan chapters and our current members. To the best of my knowledge Chapter V was Chartered in 1983.
