Meika is a 12yr female Siberia Husky. My parents raised her but couldn't handle her hyper spaztic personality so I took her in 6 years ago. Can you fathom anyone wanting to put this cutie to sleep!? Me neither so I took her when I bought my first house. Meika spends her days outside in the back yard, watching the neighbourhood. She loves the outdoors and lives for snow. Camping a few of summers ago was a whole new adventure for her. There were squirrels and elk right in the campsight which provided hours of entertainment for her. Fortunately she missed the bears that crossed through. Her favorite things are running, stealing cat food, treats (pigs ears, rawhide, etc.), running, beating up/chasing the cat, running up and down the stairs and around the livingroom at the speed of light, beating the living crap out of stuffed toys, and did I mention running. When going for a walk, the first block I get dragged - you'd think she was in a dog sled race! I have to hold on with both hands for that first bit (learned the hard way by getting a sprained wrist and losing her once). After that, she calms down and just pulls moderately - nothing else matters to her but the run - doesn't care about people or other dog, just running and sniffing the ground. My parents use to give her a tiny stuffed toy every year for Christmas as a treat. When she came to my place, she decided that the two stuffed bears that survived my childhood would suit her just find. No problem, I don't want them anymore. But to watch her throttle them is quite a sight - it's like watching a wolf or a pitbull shread a small animal (both cats watch(ed) it with terror in their eyes)! She's demolished those bears so I bought her some really cheap big stuffed animals on sale after Christmas - a 2.5ft Rudolph gets flung around the livingroom with great gusto. The plus side is it is very entertaining to watch and it tires her out pretty quickly (better than a walk in -40C for me). She is also quite the digger. When she first came I had no lawn so concrete blocks were a necessity if I didn't want to replace my carpets. She spent the first while on concrete and in a kennel, but once the sod took, she got out of the kennel and lays behind her dog house, in the shade on the grass. The only time she digs now is when she gets a really good bone that's too tough and needs to be hidden in the moist dirt. Unfortunately she doesn't get to roam free. She is also an expert escape artist. If she gets away there is no use chasing, I just wait for a minimum 2.5 hrs until she gets thirsty and comes home. Even when she was in the kennel she could jump the six foot fence to attempt to break free. At the latest house, she has a gravel driveway to hang out on with only grass along the edges (she still finds spots to dig & bury the pig's ears).... the white stuff is fur from plucking her shedding coat (the neighbours thought their cat had been in a fight with all the fluff in the driveway)! my official Meika Page linked to the Siberian Husky Web Ring -
