Mars in the sign of Scorpio, its most potent position, indicates extreme passion, willfulness, the need for personal power. When Mars squares the Sun and Moon, this creates a potentially very aggressive, dominating, even cruel and violent situation. In a personal chart it indicates a self-centeredness, and a tendency to become angry at the drop of the hat, sometimes acting aggressively from an instinctual level. At the soul level, it is an opportunity to take full command over the animal nature, continually letting go and surrendering one’s personal will to the will of the soul. The highly charged vital and emotional energies need to be channeled into activities that serve the whole and are harmful to no one. They cannot be denied or they will become silently destructive within, or explode without warning outwardly. Uranus opposing the Sun and Moon indicates a situation where there is a strong desire for one’s unique self-expression. This can manifest in sudden, emotionally-based rebellion from the limitation and restrictions of the past. A conflict of wills can ensue with the solution being the need to join wills in common agreement as to what is good for the whole. "My will be done," becomes "the will of the whole be done" at one level, and at the highest, "Thy Will be done," with full surrender to Divine Will. Mars square Uranus may be the most violent aspect of all, if not handled consciously. Rebellion, difficulties with authority, and the need for absolute freedom and independence are keynotes. Sudden accidents and conflicts out of nowhere are possible. This is the destructive use of the human ego-will where violence and aggression become the solution to conflicts with others. Self-hatred and self-destructiveness result when these energies are internalized. Again, the resolution comes through the realization that there are 6 billion individualized wills operating on Earth, each orchestrated at the level of the soul, by the One will. Everyone loses when one will dominates another from this perspective. A union of wills, while retaining full individuality, is the ultimate expression of this planetary combination. With the long history of war on Earth, it seems like it might be time to collectively embrace this possibility. Saturn in Taurus is the potential grounding point for the fixed grand cross, providing a means to contain and channel the intense energies of this astrological configuration into an appropriate vehicle for their expression. Taurus is the archetypal sign of the Earth, very slow, fecundating, grounding. Saturn is synonymous with our reality paradigms as defined by culture, religion and science. It also governs laws of the state, nature and spirit. In this configuration, what is obsolete and limiting in any Saturnine structures will be severely tested and challenged. Since Saturn also rules governmental and corporate leaders, and those in power in general, it doesn’t take much imagination to picture what this might mean. The structures of power and dominance that the few use to control and use the many will probably be challenged in very direct and probably confrontive ways. This might also mean that those in power—sensing that they are losing their grip of control—will muster new and more sophisticated tactics to stay in control. The gift of Saturn in this chart is that we might awaken to and heed the laws of nature and spirit, the real laws of creation. If we see Gaia as a living being of which we are a part, we will find our place in the planetary family and honor her laws. If we can awaken sufficiently to realize the spiritual laws of unity and karma (self-responsibility) we can go beyond competition, domination, and war and co-create a planetary culture demonstrative of love and unity.
