On the Giza or Gaia chart, we find both Chiron and the Part of Fortune conjunct each other and the Ascendant. The Ascendant may be the most important non-planetary point in the chart, as it is the point of manifesting oneself into the outer world. It is also our primary reflection to others, and how we are fundamentally perceived at the personality level. At the soul level, the Ascendant is the focus of the soul. Here we find the soul’s essential nature. From a combined perspective, the Ascendant is the point of ego-personality and soul fusion. This is very important, for only when the soul might act through a surrendered and aligned ego-personality vehicle, can our inherent divine qualities manifest in the outer world. This is essential if the Earth is to be transformed.

The Ascendant is at 28 degrees 26 minutes Scorpio, the sign of ego-death and transformation. The Sabian symbol for 28 Scorpio is: "The capacity in man to recognize and to pay homage to an integrating Principle at the core of all existence, the perception that all manifest entities are seen as multiple aspects of a central Power and consciousness. It is such a central principle of unity that human societies have sought to revere symbolically in human, all-too-human kings. In an individual sense, this principle is the Self—the awakened soul."

What the collective human soul is attempting to unfold is the awakening to the unity that links us all, the integrating principle at the core of all existence, within each human being, the animal, planet and mineral kingdoms. This is the very core principle of life or Soul, which is the divine fabric of everything. Very simply, the Ascendant is telling us we have the capacity now to experience a collective awakening to the unity or soul behind all life.

The second aspect of the Ascendant process is revealed through 29 Scorpio. "The image is that of an Indian squaw pleading to the chief for the lives of her children. The interpretation involves a situation where "disruptive forces and individuals" in the collective have created major karmic problems requiring resolution. What is required is a counteracting of misdeeds through love and imploration of God. The soul is responsive to the experience of unity, but the energies of human nature often follow their self-seeking, divisive tendencies. The value of prayer. The principle of wholeness in man-the soul acts to offset or attenuate the dictates of karma. In religious sense the squaw represents Mary, the Mother as a Mediatrix, in constant acts of Intercession for the sake of waylaid individuals."

As the collective soul of humanity awakens, there will probably be a unified sense of horror and panic at the state of the planet and our self-created world. Just as those who awakened in the ’60s to the feelings of shock and abhorrence of the slaughter in Vietnam and the blind materialism of the world—who dropped out, dropped acid and meditated, seeking higher states of consciousness and understanding—so too will there be a collective crisis when facing the state of things with the clear perception and higher mind of the soul. As the collective awakens, it will become apparent that we are already beyond the limits of a "soft landing" with respect to our impact on the ecosystem, and that only divine intercession can help us. This may be the crisis of all crises, the one which has the capacity for collective ego surrender and a massive spiritual awakening, and for our species to turn its heart and mind upward to the divine consciousness, to seek the kingdom again, to pray for forgiveness and grace. In reality this appears to be the only solution and the one that is asked for by the situation. It is our perfect evolutionary doorway.
