Jim (James) Horger
Location: I have been living in
Winchester, Kentucky, a small town population of 10,000 just outside of Lexington since
1995. I have moved quit a bit including Columbus, OH 1994; Minneapolis, MN
1988-1993; St. Joseph, MO 1987; Des Moines, IA 1986; and Ames, IA 1982-1986.
Family: Daughter: Mary Rose, 3.
Wife: Susan (we have been married for eleven years). And a forty-five pound black Cocker
Spaniel, Joe, 10.
Job: I finally graduated from Iowa
State University in Ames, Iowa, known as the Cyclones (no not that other IA school called
the Hawkeyes) with a degree in Chemistry in 1986. I was on the party plan.
Since graduating, I've been in the pharmaceutical business (legal drugs
since H.S.) I am the Director of Quality Systems for a Pharmaceutical contract
manufacturer. I direct the Quality Assurance Department, the Quality Control
Chemistry Laboratory, and the DEA Compliance Department. We make tablets and
capsules for companies such as SmithKline Beecham, Ortho McNeil, Pharmacia Upjohn, along
with several smaller generic companies. Imagine this, I work with controlled
substances.
Leisuretime Activities: My wife and
I own a 33 acre hobby farm just three miles out of town. I lease out the tobacco and
raise beef cattle. I have had as many as 20 head of cattle on the farm last year, so
it is a small operation.
It is a great way to relieve stress at the end of the day.
My wife grew up on a farm in Iowa so she's showing me the ropes. The
neighbors who are professional cattle barons come down to our humble home to get a good
laugh now and then. I've traded in the orange Nova for a white Dodge Ram pickup truck.
My other interests are whitewater rafting on the Upper Gauley river in
West Virginia and downhill skiing in Jackson Hole, WY. How a flatlander from
Illinois learned to love these activities remains a mystery.
Favorite Memories: Cruising the
square was always fun.
Getting my butt kicked in freshman football practices. What was I
thinking when I signed up.
Mr. White asking me not to snore in his chemistry class after I had
worked all night at IGA.
Getting to know all the local speed zones with my orange Nova was
costly.
Two of my favorite vacation spots are Crane Beach in Barbados, Glacier
National Park in Montana.
Future Plans: I want to raft the
Snake River in Hells Canyon, Idaho.
Have another daughter if I can talk my wife into another baby. I
guess I have the easy part though.
