Brown and Gold! The new look is just about done.  There's a chill in the air.   The leaves are almost all down, but for the last hangers-on.  I have instituted a new look and feel to my website, and as of this writing, have applied it to my top-level pages (this one among them!)  I'll throw it down to the service's link pages, hopefully by tonight.  Thanks to PaintShop Pro 5, I have been able to easily create buttons and a banner that all have the same look, and the beveled edges that give the buttons their button appearance is from Microsoft FrontPage 98.  Kudos too JASC and Microsoft.  On the downside, I tried two Microsoft products to edit my web graphics, and quickly gave up: Microsoft Image Composer and Paint.  I'm losing enough hair, and those two programs are as counter-intuitive and counter-productive as a graphics program gets.  Save yourself the hassles, PaintShop Pro 5 can be purchased at most big-box computer products companies for about $80.00 at most.  It used to be shareware, but has now grown up into a retail product which will give CorelDraw and PhotoShop a run for their money, and serve  the needs of most home-user graphic artists well.  Notice that this page background color matches that of the lettering in the buttons and banner?  PaintShop Pro 5 provides you the HTML code which will allow you to color match in exactly this way.  By the way, if you see this background and lettering as more green than brown, you probably have a graphics display card that only supports 8-bit color, or have yours set to 8-bit.  The colors should look right if set for 16- or 32-bit color.  One of these days, I'll give the site a look in Web-TV, but for you lucky folks on Web TV, this is probably another of those sites that looks fouled up.  Sorry if that is how it comes out.  I recommend a $500.00 PC or $1,200.00 I-Mac to cure your problems.

That's it for now, back to doing that WEBMASTER stuff!

MORE UPDATES! The leaves are falling, and I have completed a new banner, and shrunk my site down to a more manageable size.  Please, if you are visiting here for the first time, take a moment to check out my links and surf on the the sites of interest.   Before you jump out, please take a moment to sign the guestbook.

UPDATES.   Thanks for taking the time to pop in here.  It seems every time I want to update these pages, global changes readable by everyone (Netscape users, I wouldn't dump a bunch of Internet Explorer-centric features on you, it's not fair) are a task worthy of MS-Notepad.  But it seems pretty daunting to do so on so many pages.  I have decided to reduce the number of pages on my site, while still maintaining the same level of information formerly available.  The old links will still be there for a while, but some individual pages will likely be devoid of the info they formerly contained.   Not to worry!  You will still be able to find the links in their new locations, so please stay patient and follow the new links you find.  Change your old "Bookmarks" and "Favorites" accordingly.  Please let me know if you like the new look.

DoD NEWS.  You may be aware that the Secretary of Defense has provided new guidance about posting information on the World Wide Web that would jeopardize the safety or security of military missions, movements, and personnel on official sites.

Imagine an American pilot shot down in enemy territory, threatened with a hit squad visit back home, based on info found on the web which provided the address of family members (spouse, children, parents) etc.

You now understand the need for DoD to be careful.  Balance that with the need to provide public information, and you have quite a tough task.  All DoD websites were to be taken off-line, reviewed for their contents and modified as needed before being re-posted.  Therefore if some of my links appear to be dead, wait a few days, then try them again, they may still be under review.
