Character Rules & Guidelines

Approval
You have to get all characters approved by the Game Master here at Darkfalls and I ask that you read up on the info here on this website to better understand what’s changed, what’s the same, and who’s who. ^_~ Please fill out the form provided for this game and we ask that you try to be original when it comes to your character. We might ask you to rework a character if we feel it doesn’t fit the feel of our game, but you can change and resubmit a character as much as you wish. ^_^

How Many Can You have?
You may create your own character or adopt the readily available characters here at Darkfalls. We ask that you play only one character when you first join Darkfalls. You may play another after you have completed the probation period of one month and have shown dedications in the Game. You must play your two characters both as much again as you would just one. If we feel you are floundering with the added weight of another character, that character can be taken away from you. You will be given ONE warning about this, and only one. Considering the inflated ration of females to males in a Game, it is very unlikely, though not impossible, that your second character will be female; unless, of course, your original character is male already. A player may have up to three characters in Darkfalls. However, the third character can only be attained if you have shown yourself to be thoroughly dedicated to the game.

Player Character Rights
Once a character has been approved or adopted, the player has complete and total control over that character. Nothing will happen to your character without your express permission and acceptance, unless stated otherwise in the rules & the Will of the Game Master deem it otherwise. It basically goes like this: their fist ends where your nose begins. Spontaneity is good, but not at the expense of someone else's character. Others may have the right to get mad at your character and throw a punch, but it’s up to you to whether that punch connects. This also means that you should NOT play another person’s character unless is it expressively approved and even then keep those kinds of posts down. We don’t want just one person doing all posts.

Adopting Characters
When one adopts a character, there may be plot lines associated with that character which will be told to you at first interest. You HAVE TO agree to these plot lines in order to adopt the character. If you do not like the plot lines, you cannot adopt the character.

Life, Love & Recognition
There is a nasty habit in Games that people start pairing off pretty quick and sometimes people find their elf as the only active member of a pairing. We don’t want this Game to be a tribe of couples, and as such, love & lifematings have been designated as privilege. That means you have to show dedications to get one. Both players of each character must want the pairing for it to happen. The Game Master will not force a normal unrecognized romance on anyone. Also, there has to be a reason and/or progression of the relationship. Anyone suddenly finding they are in love with a character they haven’t looked twice at for turns will be instantly denied. Show us how good an Player you are, take it slow.
Like in real life, having your character(s) in a relationship that causes them to have sex on a regular basis, there is a chance of pregnancy. Yes folk, children outside of recognition can and WILL happen! The Game Master reserve the right to inform a couple’s players, without warning, that they are going to be proud parents of a child outside of recognition! This is the draw back of this kind of play and don’t think I won’t do it.
Then of course there is Recognition. Recognition is a privilege. Meaning you have to show dedication to the Game to get a recognition by request or otherwise. You will also have to take into account the unpredictability of recognition. Meaning, that when it is decided by the Game Master that a recognition will occur, all the available and worthy characters (and thus players) will be put into a drawing and names pulled out. You MUST state you do not want your character(s) to be in the drawing when it is announced and thus BEFORE the drawing. Once the drawing is done, there is no turning back. I will not allow recognitions between characters of the same player, that is usually boring for all involved.
We here at Darkfalls follow the TRUE meaning of recognition, which is that all elves give off a subconscious signal requesting a mate who’s offspring would improve their genetic imperfections in the next offspring and whom would gain from the genetic advantages from them also. This means, that, theoretically, family could recognize each other, but due to the fact they share such close genetic bonds, they do not have the proper requirements for that “signal.” SO! Given this, we feel that cousins can and may recognize, though it will be extremely rare, and second cousins are fair game! In a Game this small, things like this are bound to happen and will.

Now that you have read the rules, in a mail to me put: “Have you read the rule?” Put down: Depends?
This will tell me that you have read these rules. ^_^
