His Origins -
Gareth was born to a loving father who was professor
of Archaeology at a Dublin University (Influence-University 1), and a practicng
Druid mother. Gareth was raised as a Neo-Druid since many of the
traditions were muddled over the years from the times of the ancient Celts
and their Gods. His mother was kinfolk to the Fianna Garou and both
his mother and father told him of the legends of the Fae since he was three
years old. His dreams of youth were working with Merlin, or being
a knight of the Fae King Oberon and Queen Tatianna.
His Youth -
Gareth went to school and always helped organize celebrations
for "May Day." He seem to move with a celebration of life and while
kids did pick on him. He took it pretty along with a few scuffles
from local bullies. It was Samhain when he was 10 winters old that
changed him forever. He was camping in the wilderness of Kilkenny
county with his family when he awoke from sleep to noise in the wilderness
around him. When he crept into the woods he saw his father talking
to a figure that looked like a Sidhe, elf from "Tolkein", or one of the
spirits of Tuatha De Dannan whose companion looked like a Fir Bolg (Irish
for Troll) bodyguard. His father knelt and while he could not hear
what they said. Some scrolls and books were exchanged and the air
surrounding the gathering seemed friendly. Then the large giant notice
Gareth and before acting in a noticeable manner his mere gaze was enough
to send the young lad scurrying back to his bed roll. His dad
never said anything about is other than to giving him a book written in
Gaelic. Containing stories and poems about the sinking of an Island
kingdom. He is unsure whether this is Atlantis or the Isle of Avalon,
where King Arthur went to.
The Change -
His first change came two years later at 12 when he began
having dreams about running with a pack of wolves on a chariot standing
next to him was a figure in dark leather armor with an enshrouded face
crown with antlers. From the tales his parents told him he new it
was the Master of the Hunt, Hern or Cernunos the Horned God. As the
dreams continued he ran farther and one night he met up with an elderly
but lovely looking woman fighting off what looked liked Fomorians from
ancient legends. Gareth lost himself to rage at the brutes attacking
the woman who threw spell after spell in her defense. He notice that
she looked at him and smiled and then pain wracked him as a Formorian struck.
Then he felt himself grow! He saw his hands turned into claws and
he failed his new weapons down upon the creatures! When all seemed
lost as he was ganged up on by three Fomorians the eerily beatiful sorcerous
handed him a large two-handed sword and his arms and legs were shackled
in bracers and greaves. With this new armor and weapons he destroyed
the vile creatures. Afterwards mist settle over the field and Gareth
fell alseep. When he awoke he was naked and coved with small scars
on his arms. His mother found him in the backyard and around his
neck was a bronze torc (neck-choker). Needless to say she and his
father were frightened out of there minds and were stunned by the tale
he related to them. Some of the symbols on his torc led his mother
and father to believe that he was visited by Dana (Totem 2) herself and
he had run with the Wild Hunt.
His Travels -
What the rest of his story covered made his mother think
of her grandfather who moved to the states. He might be a werewolf
his mother thought! If her grandfather stories were true then maybe
his howling at the moon was for some real benefit. They made arrangements
to send him to Phoenix, Arizona in the United States. His father
pushed the trips urgency dues to his belief that those out who still hunt
and persecute his wife and some of his special friends would kill his son
if the legends were true. Off he went and met his great grandfather.
A wolf's beginning -
Due to his advanced age the Garou in him had pushed his
lifespan far but he had lost the ability to harness his rage. Arron
Quinn began to teach Gareth the Litany and some information about the Fianna
of yore. Gareth found himself drawn to the mystical side of his great
grandfather's tales. Barely able to harness his gnosis Arron used
a pendant to divine if Gareth was exhibiting an auspice. Cresent
Moon appeared and the use of gnosis around him cause him to begin changing
and he fell back against a large mirror in the house. To both their
surprises Gareth fell through the mirror into a reflection world of his
great grandfather's home. It looked like the "Otherworld" his parents
legends told him about. He wandered around and found a replica of
the grandfather clock there. Except this one spoke to him!
Stunned and a bit scared he sat and listened till the words made sense.
Now he knew his greath grandfather's house had a spirit bound to it.
The spirit also showed him how to switch back down to homid. Soon
he was able to speak the odd speech and was told by the home that some
people wanted to meet him.
Words from the Past -
Then Gareth saw the unbral living room fill with people.
People he remembered from photographs, and then he came slowly to the realization
that these were the spirits of his Ancestors. There clothes ranged
from the old west to ancient druid and celtic warriors. Soon his
mind was assulted by a thousand voices as he heard tale after tale of every
Garou ancestor all the way back to before the Gauntlet arose! The
horror some of those ancestors experienced at the rising of the gauntlet
still haunts Gareth as re dreams their dreams and his as he sleeps.
Unfortuneately, those dreams and visions bleed over into the waking hours.
After an indeterminable amount of time passed Gareth awoke and somehow
knew to go through the mirror like a gateway between the spirit world and
the human world.
The Garou is Born -
When he emerged his great grandfather said he was ready
to move on to those that could show him paths he was ready to take.
Over the next six years Arron Quinn made contact with a Fianna Garou in
the city and found one willing to test a cub that had survive the change
and made his first crossing even if by accident. The Garou was a
Homid Philodox of the tribe and was Athro (Rank 4) and it was he that wanted
the knowledge past on as he was hiding from people he pad pissed off.
After Gareth had learned things normally thought beyond cubs (rites 3).
He was helped with the knowledge of his ancestors. Many times during
a given day he may be washed over with visions of the past or hearing the
opinion of one of his ancestors at bizarre times and/or situations.
Death of a boy, Birth of a Man -
Just when Gareth was going to his first moot for his
Rite of Passage disaster struck. When Gareth arrived home the day
after his High School graduation. He found the door ajar and heard
cries from his ancestor about a great dark returning! Throwing the
door the rest of the way open he saw the massive amount of carnage.
His great grandfather's head was decapitated and the Athro Homid Fianna
was in so many pieces he looked like a large butchered dog. The house
was decimated and it looked like the entire placed was ransacked.
The spirits said they saved some of his great grandfather hierlooms (Fetish
3) and all his notes on spiritual matters in his journal (Influence-Occult
1). After the police cleared it up a well dressed lawyer (insert
Glasswalker NPC of choice) showed up with document making the house Gareth's.
The lawyer left him instructions to a gathering of friends (i.e. the game).
Now at the age of 18 Gareth is ready to explore the new world laid before
him and seek out the killers his great grandfather and his garou teacher.
Not to mention the fae he has read and studied so much about.
