Welcome one and all to the Paraiso de Espinas October Newsletter DAZ01 - Paradise of Thorns CHAOS FLUX OH NO! That group of words seems to cover the state of our Domain here in Arizona. Since the last Domain meeting in September we have had our ups and down. Let's see we have had some members leave the Domain but in the wake of that heart felt loss we have seen our various chapters grow closer together over the various venue styles. Our newest chapter Jyhad of the Shifting Sands has seen massive cross chapter gaming with both Night Shift and Tucson's Song of Sonora. The Garou (Werewolf) venue has started as a Domain game run by an ISI member the ADST for Garou: Phil Bernacke. Night Shift's Dan Byrd has come up with a chapter level game and it includes players from I believe every chapter in the Domain! Kudos! Well now again I have repeatedly said that all submissions to the Domain newsletter are to be in by the 10th of the month. Now this is the third month that NOBODY in the whole domain has submitted anything. Not poems, picture art, ramblings, quotes, etc. I will be including a reply to an e-mail I read this month about why should someone stay in the Camarilla. Editor's Corner - Having been in a large organization before that was worldwide as well I had an interesting view about the message (at least I think it was, but since I post I get to put it in, mmmuuuuaahhhhh :-). #1 ...To anyone interested, I read Christie Cleveland's missive about rules. I have been in the SCA for 14 years ever since I was 12 years old. I fought in my first war and crown tourney at 13. While I prefer the Cam over the SCA right now it taught me a lot about dealing with other in a "WORLDWIDE" "VOLUNTEER" organization. I found there were whole groups of people I didn't want to be around becaused they read over the rules in the Corpora (By-Laws of the SCA) so much they were that groups rule-lawyers. They were always pointing out ways to get ahead if they liked you but Lugh forbid if they were un-happy with you. Then every Marshall knew every questionable thing you did and they're insidious network of freaks always used the rules to bite you in the a$$ for fun. Unfortuneately, this next point is something we all have to realize that in this group someone may have a situation that comes up and results in a new rule. By and large the rest of the group will chafe at this new restraint because they might not understand the reason this came about. Now this spawn the attitude that those at the top of the group our power hungry or make rules because they feel like it. All to often we forget that these insane, psychotic, loving, hard-working, and talented people thought ..... ....what better way to spend my evening than trying to help fellow gamers world wide get together, play, contribute to the community around them and maybe a chance to better themselves. How would I do this? How do I get together with the game company that makes the game? What rules might they impose? How do we make the rules thay give us work for EVERYONE? If only there was an organization that could put this all together?..... The Camarilla was born to fill that void and it has done a good job. Nothing in this world is perfect and someone is always going to believe his way is better. Maybe, as the years roll by us his idea might now be better and this change people and their new ideas is what has allowed the Camarilla to survive this long. As a parent this has helped bridge the age gap with my kids who do tabletop. They love hearing how my brave troll knight helped to save the day. Or how my vampire plots his ways through the darken roads of Phoenix, Arizona. I have met news friends in upwards of 30+ people. I have activities my wife and I go to. My kids (14 & 15) get to occasionally hang out with older people and they learn how to act appropriately. I have found people I have started to network with and soon we may have a business to build run. Why would you leave anything this cool? Hey with all the good stuff the reason I stay around is to see what freaky thing will happen next? :-) Brian Fields #2000-03-141 #2 While this was not sent to me as a submission. Normally I would not advertise or promote a business of any kind I thought about something. We here in the Camarilla are all net citizens. This virtual world of Online Chapters like Four Winds and net play venue's like Night Shift's Wraith game has caused some thought change on my stance. If people will submit site they think might help the domain then the links page on the domain site can increase and maybe we may just make traversing the cyber-realms a little easier for all of us. Camarilla site would gain precedence, but any site like the one below would get reviewed and listed. I am listing the following website as a good place to start looking for a domain space on the World Wide Web. http://www.namezero.com/ Once here you should look at the free domain services they offer to both personal and business clients. While not as robust as some other domain hosting e-services, they are a good site for those people looking for a net presence to start. Thanks Mike Meyer for mentioning this place to us. #3 Lastly I will be posting this report as a PDF file and you can go to http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep.html Here you will be able to download Acrobat Viewer program to look at it. For the next couple of months I will do the Newsletter as both text *.txt and *.pdf files. This is also something that I thought about but as far as I am aware no one has a Macintosh system. #4 Well I here their is going to be an Ordeal Party on the 24th of this month!?! Dustin and Maggie are outdoing themselves again and are a testament on how Night Shift shows constant interest in pushing the domain in a forward direction. Watch the lists folks for times and directions. E-mail Dustin Holland at ironwolf@goodnet.com for more information. #5 Lists and those that love them... ...next on Springer!!! I know we are bogged down by the shere number of them out there. How to shut down the ones we don't use? Given time and people coming and leaving the Camarilla or the Domain the owners forget their lists and such. Well for now we seem stuck with list that only few people about and few other ever get on. However like the old movie called the 'Star Chamber' its those few lists that many of the decisions are made on. Fear not! I am not trying to stir up an e-riot but just informing that we only need a few lists for us to talk on to each other. Food for thought.
