A very important reminder from Dr. Cowan: Please do not take "Any" Anti-inflammatory drugs.
Drugs commonly used for the treatment of arthritis, bursitis, tendonitis, and for many back problems will cause irritation to your stomach lining. This could develop into a bleeding ulcer.
Avoid these Drugs:
Alka Seltzer
Anacin
Ascriptin
Aspirin
Bufferin
Coricidin
Cortisone
Dolobid
Empirin
Excedrin
Feldene
Fiorinol
Ibuprofen
Meclomen
Motrin
Nalfon
Naprosyn
Norgesic
Tolectin
Vanquish
Drugs you can take safely:
Datril
Fioricet
Panadol
Tylenol
Note: Do NOT confuse anti-inflammatory drugs with anti-biotics.
************Additionally: Celebrex?***********
Hi Patty,
Yesterday I ask the Medical Director at our office about Celebrex. He said that there should be no reason for WLS patients to refrain from using this drug under medical supervision. This drug is a COX2 inhibitor without the GI disturbances.
Later I called Dr. Cowan's office and checked with his nurse. After all "He is the Bariatric Specialist". His nurse told me that Dr. Cowan had reviewed this new anti-inflammatory drug and was pleased to give it his approval.
Well, that is good enough for me. But I don't use anti-inflammatory drugs at this time. But those WLS patients who are interested, I suggest as my medical directory mentioned, check with your own doctor first.
Good Luck Patty and have a nice day.
