The Day Before Surgery Workup

(1) First as of midnight the evening before I was not allowed to eat or drink until after all the tests were completed. And then I had to ask and ask again if I was allowed to eat or drink. Then they had to call my doctor and ask him!

(2) Blood was drawn to check status of my Kidneys, Liver, Nutrition, Blood, Blood Gases, Cholesterol and other important entities.

(3) A chest X-Ray and an EKG were performed.

(4) A glucose tolerance test would have been performed, except that I had already been diagnosed as a diabetic.

(5) A pulmonary (lung) functions test was performed.

(6) A gallon jug of lemon-lime flavored Laxative was given to me and an enema.

(7) After my guts had finished flushing out, I was told to take an antiseptic shower. I was told to scrub every inch of my body twice or more to reduce the number of bacteria normally found on the skin.
