Pureed Diet (part one)

What Should You Eat?

Limit each meal or snack to a total of 4 (four) ounces.

This page came from my notes and information as a patient of Dr. Cowan.

Beverages: Choose - decaffeinated coffee, decaffeinated tea, sugar-free non-carbonated beverages.

Do NOT choose - sweetened beverages, untreated milk beverages, carbonated beverages, beverages containing caffeine, alcoholic beverages.

Bread and Cereal Products: Choose - strained farina, oatmeal, cream of rice, cream of wheat.

Do NOT choose - breads and all other cereals.

Desserts and Sweets: Choose - sugar-free gelatin, baby food fruit, sugar substitutes, diet jelly, diet syrup.

Do NOT Choose - jam, jelly, honey, syrup, sugar, pie, cake, cookies, pastries and beverages sweetened with sugar.

Eggs: Choose - very soft cooked eggs: poached, scrambled, soft boiled.

Do NOT Choose - hard cooked or fried eggs.

Fats: Do NOT Choose - Margarine, butter, cream, cooking oils, salad dressings, mayonnaise, gravy.

Fruits and Juices: Choose - all unsweetened fruit juices, artificially sweetened fruit drinks, Unsweetened baby food fruits.

Do NOT Choose - raw or whole fruits.

Meat, Fish and Poultry Substitutes: Choose - baby food beef, chicken, lamb, liver, pork, turkey and veal.

Do NOT Choose - any others!

Milk: Choose - Lactaid treated milk

Do NOT Choose - any milk or milk beverage not treated with Lactaid.

Soups: Choose - blenderized cream soups (made with treated milk), or bouillon.

Do NOT Choose - any other soups!

Vegetables: Choose - strained vegetable juices, baby food vegetables. Thin instant mashed potatoes.

Do NOT Choose - any other vegetables!

Seasoning and Miscellaneous: Choose - salt, mild spices as tolerated, sugar substitute.

Do NOT Choose - any other unlisted spices!
