Readers Tips :

I was checking the traffic on the Bulletin Board and this suggestion was given:
How about a place in your web site where we can share tips for new Weight Loss Surgery patients?

So here it is!
If you have something you would like to see me post as a suggestion or tip to help others out there that are getting ready to, or already are going through the steps of recovery after surgical intervention for weight loss:
Either post it on the Bulletin Board for me to move to this page or e-mail me direct.

Thank you Michelle St.Claire for your suggestion and the list of tips to start it off with.

Try to get a recliner for yourself for when you come home from the hospital. I couldnt sleep lying down for 2 weeks, and I wish I had had one rather then sleeping sitting up on the sofa... (which added a backache to everything else)

Get sugar free popsicles, lots of them in case your having trouble getting fluids down. It helps...trust me.

Set clock times that you should eat. Otherwise the entire day may go by and youll realize you havent had anything. Its easy to do.

Add a little protein powder to everything you can at first. You need alot of protein and every gram you can get will help. Add it to milk (if you can tolerate milk) soup, whatever..

Eat your calcium tablets and chewable vitamins at opposite times of the day. Calcium has a tendancy to block vitamin absorption. I take my calcium at breakfast and lunch, and my vitamins before bedtime.

Make yourself go for a walk everyday. I know it hurts, and you dont feel well, but the more you walk, the sooner youll feel better. (dont force yourself if you honestly can't do it however)

Eat all your protein first, and then go on to the fruits, breads and vegetables. I crumble up a hard boiled egg and add it to different things, like salad and sometimes soup. Its a good protien source.

If you can stand the thought or taste of liver... its a wonderful meat for people like us. Its very low fat, and very high protein (27 gms per 3 oz). Plus it chews down (kinda melts) so well that you can eat more of it then hamburger meat. I fry it with onions and add Worcestershire sauce. This is a very good tip for more reasons than I can count, the nutritional value of Liver is so high you just cannot go wrong here. I even know a doctor who incorporates almost a total gastric bypass in his version of Weight Loss Surgery and wants his patients to consume up to a pound of liver daily in the early stages of the Regular Diet.

I am unable to excerise like I should because of my blood pressure. My doctor suggested an electronic muscle stimulator to help build the lean muscles. (NOT IF YOU HAVE SUTURES, metal plates or large metal pins) I found that they run about $199-$399.00 for the home models. I set the probes on my abdomen and rear end and turn it on. In a 45 minute session I have worked my muscles equivalent to 500 situps and 500 donkey kicks, but without soreness. I started seeing a difference after 4 sessions**Please dont use this as a replacement to real exercize. It has no cardio benefits at all.

Well I could go on forever so Ill stop now. God Bless.

Thank you Michelle
