Drifting off to
peaceful lands
where black and white walk hand in hand
and lazy shadows seem to stand.
That's where I want to be.
Where roller coasters twist and turn,
where water and ice seem to burn,
where purple seas constantly churn,
I think I've been there before.
Today my spotted giraffe is gone
replaced by a steamboat parked on the lawn
that will disappear as soon as it's dawn
only to come back the next night.
My dreams of flying depend on the lies
I tell myself when I close my eyes
that everything is possible if I realize
I can do anything I want.
Tonight I'm astronaut
flying in space.
Next I'll be Superman, all over the place.
Or maybe the leader of a far, distant race
of people who know better than we do.
A mean, vicious pirate sailing the seas
or perhaps a lone carrot in a world full of peas
or a big, fluffy dog all covered in fleas.
The only limits are what you can imagine.
The lead guitarist in the biggest rock group
or the only rooster in a packed chicken coup
or a big weeping willow, letting your arms droop
would make for an interesting evening.
I could be the richest man in the world
with tons of money and tons of girls
only to find out they all look like squirrels.
Weird things happen in here sometimes.
I see old friends I haven't
seen in years
and get overjoyed and start crying tears
when I get a visit from someone so dear
I lost and miss so much.
Riding with Santa in his flying, red sleigh
delivering presents before Christmas day
is something you can honestly say
that you've done before.
I can do what I want and it's never wrong
I can even write it down in a song
and teach the world to sing right along
and I'm happy while I'm there.
The dreams that I dream are all mine alone
I keep them to myself, locked in the home
of the depths of my mind but yet they are gone
as soon as I open my eyes.
