Bolingbrook man charged with Lisle burglaries

Posted 3/9/2005

A Bolingbrook man has been charged with two counts of residential burglary in connection with incidents in the Arbor Ridge subdivision, Lisle police said Tuesday.

Police said a resident living in the 4400 block of Basswood Drive was working on a laptop computer in his basement around 3 a.m. Sunday when he heard a noise upstairs.

When the man went to investigate, he found a stranger in his kitchen and asked the man what he was doing there, Sgt. Ron Wilke said.

The intruder told the resident he had come to steal his television, Wilke said, and then apologized and left on foot.

Police from Lisle and Downers Grove responded and were stationed near the subdivision exits looking for a man matching the intruder's description.

When the suspect, Christopher R. Sievers, 20, of 317 Brighton Lane, attempted to drive past the police cars, his new black Chevy Cobalt stalled briefly.

"It was a stick shift," Wilke said. "And he didn't know how to drive a stick."

Sievers had a beard and was wearing a red T-shirt and a dark sweat suit, which matched the description given to police.

After a traffic stop, Wilke said, officers saw X-box games and DVDs strewn across the suspect's back seat.

Wilke said Sievers consented to a search of the car and officers also found a woman's purse and identification.

Police contacted the woman, also from Arbor Ridge, who didn't realize she had been burglarized.

"It happened while she was sleeping," Wilke said. "She didn't know it was missing."

Wilke said Sievers confessed to breaking into two houses and at least three cars Saturday night and Sunday morning.

Sievers was taken to DuPage County jail. He posted bond Monday and was released.
