A Night to Forget

By Tamara

Riley Finn was having, possibly, the worst night of his life.

As he trudged through the streets of Sunnydale, his shoulders hunched, his head bowed, the rain pouring viciously from the sky, Riley decided he had never felt worse than he felt at this moment.

All because of one golden haired goddess and the dark angel she just couldn’t seem to keep her tiny little hands, or her lips or any of her other body parts, off of.

With a sigh, Riley stopped walking and leaned against the wall of the cemetery, his mind going over everything he’d been through that day. Remembering all the things he’d done in his quest to track down the very elusive Buffy. As the images of his many trials replayed like a mini-movie in his mind, he was vaguely aware that he wasn’t alone.

Willing to do anything to stop thinking about his many failures that day, he turned his head, only to groan when he realized who his companion was.

"Did you come here to gloat," Riley asked the vampire, his voice tinged with bitterness and anger.

With a smile, Angel shrugged. "I could," he replied, copying the mortal’s pose. "You’ve given me a lot to gloat over."

"I’ll bet."

"As much as I’d like to, it’s not in my nature to take pleasure in other people’s pain," Angel informed the boy. "Which really is a pity."

Riley glared at the vampire. "Right. Pity. So sorry you couldn’t find more happiness in my humiliation."

Angel’s smile widened. "I said I couldn’t take pleasure in your pain," he repeated, pulling away from the wall. "I didn’t say I couldn’t take pleasure in someone else taking pleasure in your pain."

Riley’s eyes narrowed as Spike suddenly appeared from behind the older vampire, a smile on his face, his eyes twinkling in amusement. Sensing that his humiliation was just beginning, the mortal groaned and reluctantly followed the vampires through the rain.

And three hours later, as the various vampiric and demonic patrons at Willie’s bar roared with laughter as Spike detailed his antics at the Bronze earlier that night, complete with hand gestures, did Riley decide that this was most definitely the worst night of his life.

The End
