In reading #39, I was reminded of the line in which Antony says "Here was a Caesar! When comes such another? The line's meaning is to make the crowd realize that the conspirators were wrong in killing Caesar because he was a harmless and good man. I do not know if this is true or not. I see Caesar as a ruler. Perhaps he was noble and good, but I suspect not. He had to play the game of politics and in order to get where he got, he had to be corrupt to a certain extent. As for the fact that no other Caesar will come again, that is true. That fact is especially present in the reading Caesar's Army in Camp and in Action. His soldiers were well trained and disciplined. The soldiers, though under paid, set up camp each night to be safe and militarily smart. Through this genius in setting up camp and controlling the battlefield, Caesar gained his popularity. In reading the play I have been thinking of one thing. Should Caesar have died? Was it really worth it? Who can say for sure. Shakespeare makes Caesar look like a hero that is tragically killed through corruption. History points toward the fact that Caesar was a genius and an apt ruler. Why then was he killed? We will never know and perhaps because of the mystery, history will not repeat itself for fear of destruction.
