FROM THE EAST
DEAR BRETHREN:
It is with great honor that I serve as the Master of Continental Lodge
for the ensuing year. I am proud to follow in the tradition of our past
Masters including RW Edward Scheider, John Neubauer, RW Unno Pitkanen, Henry
Peterson and Christ Pappas to name a few of our most senior past masters
that I have had the privilege to have known. I would like to commend W Doel
Rivera for the fine job he has done over the past two years and for turning
over to me a vibrant lodge with a crowded trestle board. We have already
planned a tentative schedule for the year which will include all three
degrees. This will allow us to clear our trestle board of the fourteen
petitioners and turn them into active, working brothers. Along with the
degree work we have planned an interesting and enjoyable year which will
again include the summer gatherings at my and Ed's houses and a theater
night in the spring. I personally feel that, in addition to having an
interesting agenda for the brethren at our meetings, it is very important
for our families to be active participants in activities throughout the
year.
We are planning a night of remembrance for our June meeting which will
give us the opportunity to remember our brothers who passed this year in
addition to the members of the lodge that, through distance or otherwise,
are unable to attend. In your notice you will be receiving a stamped
addressed postcard which we would like every brother to return to the lodge
with a "yes I will attend the meeting" or a greeting to be read at the
meeting. I would love to have 100% participation in this.
In addition you will also receive a form to be completed and returned
which will enable us to update our roster and insure we have current
information on all of the brothers.
Anyone interested in attending the Mason of the Year Charity Ball on
June 11th honoring RW Matthew Jacobsen and RW Tommy Lam should contact the
Treasurer who has tickets for the event. This is a ladies night in the lodge
and the lodge will pick up the cost of our brother's guest.
I want to end my first communication by inviting all of the brothers to
attend the meetings and see the good things that are happening in
Continental. To those of you who have not been at a meeting for a while come
on back - we will welcome you with open arms. If you need a ride or a travel
companion let us know and we will provide it. For those of you who distance
prevents from attending keep us in mind if you ever make plans to visit New
York and try to schedule your trip the first week of the month. It is always
nice seeing a brother and remember all of you are always in our thoughts and
prayers.
