These characters are the backbone of the Space Forces: the helmsmen, the navigators, the engineers, the communications officers, etc. Underlying each of these specialties is a core of competencies that is this template. Spacers become familiar with microgravity and vacuum quickly or they die. While all of the ships of the Space Forces have artificial gravity, the need to be able to work outside the ship means that all members of a crew are trained how to operate in the blackness of space. Spacers often follow the "work hard, play hard" philosophy of their wet navy predecessors, and a Space Forces ship arriving can be the first sign of trouble for areas that the spacers want to go to relax.
