Ashley's Journey on Her Third Birthday

Ashley is celebrating her graduation from the Early Intervention program on her birthday today (12/11/2000). She has outgrown her fear of things being attached to her head (including hats).

She is sporting a missing tooth which she knocked loose on a sidewalk and finished it up on a piece of furniture. She is learning to say a variety of words to get her way. Overall, her health is excellent. She has had no heart or lung issues in the past several years and is very active. While thrombocytopia (low platelets), growth, and hydrocephlus continue to be monitored by her docs, none have required medical intervention. Her heart and lungs continue to be very strong. She still insists that her ears are eyes also, apparently since she can't see very well at all without the glasses hooked on her ears.

This is the same child that would have fit in either my hand or the graduation hat when she was born. We have been really encouraged by the many parents who have visited and been able to draw comfort from her journey. Ashley's journey to her many specialists continues to take us across the paths of children having terminal diseases, constantly reminding us how fortunate we are. I know that many angels encouraged her to stay with us and continue to guide her on her journey. I hope that the parents of those children whose calling was not on this earth draw comfort that their child continues to help children such as Ashley to continue their journey.

Our Journey Through Psalms

December 1997

My God my God, why have you forsaken me? Why are you so far from helping me and from the words of my groaning? (Also in Matthew 27:46). O my God, I cry in the daytime, but you answer not; and by night I am not silent and find no rest. Psalms 22:1-2

December 1998

Yea though I walk through the deep sunless valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil; for you are with me; your rod and staff they comfort me. Psalms 23:4

December 1999

He refreshes and restores my life; my self. Psalms 23:3

December 2000

He makes me lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still and restful waters [quite literally]. Psalms 23:2
