"Located in the heart of Hollywood, Bar Sinister runs only on Saturday
nights at the famous Steve Boardner's.
En'trance down a candle-lit alley into one of Hollywood's best kept
secret little places. Our cobblestone
patio, lit with black and purple lights, is set in the middle of four
buildings whose walls are cracked from
years of wear and LA earthquakes; windows that have been cemented up but
the safety bars still bolted to the building, doorways with iron scroll
trellises three stories up that have been filled with bricks. A spanish
tiled fountain flows dry ice from around 25 burning candles placed in
the water.
Entering inside the dark club through a black shiny hallway draped with
white shiffon and lit with red lighting you come into Hollywood's oldest
nite club. One of the most popular hot spots for the likes of Ed Wood,
WC Fields, Robert Mitchum, The Black Dahlia and numerous more to mention
and gossip about.
The old wood bar, twenty-five feet long and eighteen feet high, now clad
with The Devilish Dancers dressed in latex, leather, garters fishnet
stockings and the like, tantalize you with toys & their personal
treasures. Our upstairs Dark Playroom is for the taunted PleaSURES!? in
all of us. Velvet couches, candle light, and
.............................................................oh yes our
exclusive Dj's Tommy & Amy will spin you everything from old school Goth
to the newest Industrial Electronic.....it's always a great set for
everyone to get a little something from their time.
Red Jen the firey bombshell bartender, known to all in the scene, she
runs the antique bar inside and will put you underneath it if you don't
behave. Bartender Becky runs the more relaxed clientele on the
patio......cute and oooooh so sweet! We are the first to legally buy
and sell, at Bar Sinister, Absinthe in the United States. Moonshine
Merlot and Blak Martinis are also common to the lips on a Saturday night
here.
Appropriate evening attire is ENFORCED for admittance and a $10 cover

you dine is your cup of tea, then a visit to Eagor's Bar & Grill is in the
offing. Located in Hermosa Beach next to the Comedy & Magic Club, this
family horror restaurant is the perfect locale for the kids' next birthday bash.
The Halloween appointed dining room was put together by a Disney set designer
to reflect a realistic Hollywood scene. Props from famous ghoulish movies are
shown under glass in a spider webbed haunted house interior. The ribs here are
famous and highlight the meaty American menu."

"The cafe was really cool. They were showing some scary movie, and playing scary music. The tables were like grave stones and had sayings on them. The walls were rocks, with gargoyles and stuff on them. The owner was dressed up like a genie, and was walking around making fun of people (the one time he said, “Hey look everyone, we have a celebrity here, it’s that kid from N’sync" (he meant Justin, because this kid looked JUST like Justin from the group) and the kid was so pissed off. There was also this guy dressed up like Dracula who was walking around and would just stand behind people in line and make scary faces until they noticed. It was really fun.
Sara and the Crypt's Meow
Sometimes he’d start knocking and scratching on the girls bathroom door when someone was in it, and make meowing noises in the door. Then when they tried to come out, he’d hold the door shut. So we got food and sat down at a table. Dracula was hanging around, and he hid behind Jenn’s chair. We all saw him but she never did. We were hysterical, and she finally realized it."

"A cozy place, with a huge glass case with a woman in a gown (wedding? /
fancy night gown?) being ravaged/throat ripped out from behind by a towering
werewolf. There is a 'private room' downstairs called the Dungeon for
parties / private events. Also, there are tv screens around the place
showing films. Last time I was there Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein was

"Concept: A group of scientists at the turn of the century created a club
where they could get together and show off the wonderful and amazing/horrific
things they had collected during their adventures, Dr. Jekyll, of course,
being the most infamous of their members. Some of the walls are made to look
like bookcases, with actual book spines lining the walls. The bathroom doors
are secret moving panels and it is amusing to watch a first timer try to find
it when he/she really has to go! ;)
Throughout the place there are displays that come to life -- a giant Sphinx
head, a corpse in a sack, feet sticking out of a giant fish's head, a
gargoyle, a pair of vaudevillean skeletons that tell jokes and play music,
etc. Also, there are tv screens here too which show highlight scenes and
trailers from old horror movies (silent movies up to about the 50's and 60's).
Both places serve great food (pumpkin-filled tortellini was a tasty treat!)
and alcoholic drinks of all kinds (and some in specialty glasses -- I have a
set of camouflage canteens from there). (Joseph)
The Pub is smaller (and I believe
the original place). The Club is at least three floors and has much more
animated "things" such as a huge statue of Zeus that moves and tells jokes
and attempts to sing. Also at the Club, some of the animated wall
decorations actually have microphones and cameras in them so they can
interract with the customers sitting at the tables. (We were SO surprised
when the chandelier above our table started lowering down and a severed gypsy
head appeared inside one of the decorative globes and it began teasing us
about a conversation we were having about the original Star Wars movie and
picked on one of our group who had spilled a drink on his striped shirt.
Word of warning -- the lines for these places are long, unless you are only
going to the bar. If you want to sit and eat, expect a wait (we waited for
over an hour on a Saturday night for dinner)." (Joseph)

"Mars 2112, a new $15 million theme restaurant in Manhattan, tries to create the experience of a meal on the planet Mars. "It's the fusion of fun and good food and fantasy," said Paschal M. Phelan, an energetic businessman who is the founder and principal stockholder in the company that operates the restaurant.
While not the first of its kind - the Las Vegas Hilton in Nevada houses Quark's Bar and Restaurant - Mars 2112, with 33,000 square feet, is the biggest, Mr. Phelan said. Reach by way of a sunken plaza of the Paramount Building at 51st Street and Broadway, Mars 2112 exhibits higher technologies from the first glance. Inside is a shiny, slender space that looks like a Greyhound bus station designed by National Aeronautics and Space Administration eggheads. Visitors are issued Martian Federation visas and ushered to gates to await shuttles to Mars.
Yes, shuttles - really a motion ride that bumps, pitches and sways for about five minutes through a computer-generated wormhole to the fourth planet, tens of millions of miles away.
Upon, arrival, patrons take a short walk over industrial-style walkways suspended over pools of simulated bubbling lava. The cavernous, 400-seat restaurant has two tiers and looks as if it's ready for shooting to resume for the original "Star Trek." The only windows are those cut into the restaurant's rock walls to offer glimpses of animated star fields and computer-generated Martian landscapes. The restaurant has a bar for adults and a computer-age arcade for youngsters called Cyber Street.
Mars 2112 was built more around an event, traveling to Mars, than around a theme. "Our whole mission is to convince people that they are on Mars," said Mr. Phelan." Michel Marriott, New York Times
