The home-based business explosion has been developed out of necessity and demand. At a time when major corporations have been cutting costs by downsizing, even good jobs are no longer secure anywhere in the world!! What are your options?
Usually they are very limited, even for talented people. Even as a temporary solution, unemployment "benefits" don’t even pay a living wage. There may be other jobs out there somewhere, but will you have to take a cut in pay and/or benefits, and will the new job be any more secure than the previous one?
Another option is to start your own business. The problem for us and most of the rest of the world is that it would have been very difficult to raise the capital to start a regular business and even if you can, many small businesses fail. Unfortunately, even the successful ones don’t show a profit for years and even then it is much smaller than most people expected!

We were all taught that like the generations before us that if we worked hard, and put in more time than required we would see success and security. Unfortunately times have changed drastically! A college degree or even an advanced degree doesn’t guarantee a secure high paying job in your "field of expertise". Large companies only seem to care about one thing: THE BOTTOM LINE! They certainly don’t care about all of their loyal employees. If they did, millions of talented hardworking people would not have lost their jobs in the last 10-15 years. What makes matters worse is that some of them had been with their company for 10, 20 or even 30 years and have been forced to work at ½ the income they are used to!

None of us ever expect this is going to happen to us. I certainly didn’t. It always seems to happen at the worst possible time, and YOU HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO CONTROL OF THE SITUATION. Someone in the boardroom who doesn’t even know you is making a decision about your life and your family and you are not even consulted. They don’t know or care how hard you have worked or what kind of effort and loyalty you have given the company. THEY CERTAINLY DON’T ASK YOU HOW MANY CHILDREN YOU HAVE IN COLLEGE, WHAT YOUR MEDICAL BILLS ARE OR HOW BIG YOUR MORTGAGE IS? None of this matters because their only interest is the "BOTTOM LINE".

J. Paul Getty realized early in his life that in order to be truly successful "YOU MUST BE IN BUSINESS FOR YOURSELF, YOU’LL NEVER GET RICH WORKING FOR SOMEONE ELSE."
