Shirt...
...Yes, We Khan !!
Day
Two: Sunday.
Having
met Mandip on Saturday (so not needing a VQ ticket), Shirt was in no rush on
Sunday, as all his booked photoshoots were from lunchtime onwards. This proved
to be lucky as his train had to remain stationary for almost twenty minutes
between West Brompton and Kensington Olympia due to ‘person on the tracks’.
Finally at his destination, at around 10.45am, he had a clear walk into the
hall. Walking to the signing area, he noticed that Mandip had been moved into
Jodie’s area, but unsurprisingly was not as popular as the previous day due to
the number of fans of the current series that only attended on Saturday when
Jodie was also there.
First
up was Simon Paisley Day who as well as appearing in two ‘Doctor Who’ stories (and ‘Star Wars’), appeared in
‘Sherlock:
The Hounds of Baskerville’. Simon only had
‘Star Wars’ photos on his table, but luckily Shirt had brought a ‘Sherlock’
photo with him.
“What
was my character name ?”, asked Simon, momentarily stumping Shirt as although
the characters have canonical names their involvement was swapped around.
Eventually, he remembered – ‘Major Barrymore’
(the butler in the original).
Next
was Matthew Devitt, who played Dog, the Cat-equivalent in ‘Red Dwarf:
Parallel Universe’. He happily signed Shirt’s
‘Red Dwarf – Series 2’ DVD cover (already
signed by alt-Lister, Angela Bruce), then
demonstrated dog-like enthusiasm about having a photo taken with Shirt.
Moving
off, Shirt joined a queue for Jonny Mathers, who played Passenger in 5 out of the 6 episodes of ‘Doctor Who: Flux’.
Poster signed, and Jonny stood up for a photo with Shirt. It then became clear
that due to Jonny’s height (7” 2’), the steward taking the photo had to go back
a long way to be able to get both of them in frame.
Passing
the signing area, Shirt noticed that the notice above Lilly Aspell (who plays
the Young Diana in the Gal Gadot
‘Wonder Woman’
films) stated that she was in the Will Ferrell/John
C. Reilly ‘Holmes
and Watson’ film. However, she had no photos
from this, and a quick check on IMDB showed her to be a very long way down the
cast list. Shirt therefore decided not to get a photoshoot with her.
Shirt
then browsed the stalls again, finding them to be much less crowded than the
previous day. It was then time for his first photoshoot, with Simon Paisley
Day, which again had a very short queue.
It
was lunchtime so Shirt popped over to the supermarket again, returning in
plenty of time for his photoshoot with Lysette Anthony, who appears in the
1980’s comic Sherlock Holmes classic, ‘Without
A Clue’. Lysette was favouring a back-to-back
pose, which Shirt initially struggled with.
Leaving
the photoshoot and after another brief browse of the stalls, Shirt decided to
get Lysette to sign a video cover for ‘Without a Clue’. Shirt had met
Lysette at a previous
event, where she had signed a photo of her
character. Worried that she might cover the excellent artwork on the cover,
Shirt asked for an undedicated signature, pointing at the area where he wanted
her to sign.
It
was then time for Shirt’s final photo of the day, Mandip Gill. Due to her
having participated in multiple photoshoots the previous day, the queue was of
medium length, but Shirt managed to get in towards the front.
On
his way out, Shirt purchased a
POP
Vinyl of the Thirteenth Doctor, and a small
framed print of ‘Speedy’s and 221b’. Making his
way home, via Shepherd’s Bush, he mused on another excellent weekend, in which
he had avoided all of the madness surrounding the headliners.
