Few teams in Drag racing have been together as many years as VanGundy and Clark Racing. Their partnership goes back to 1966 when they campaigned their 40’s Willys truck for three years. In 1972 they went to work for Gary Densham’s "Teachers Pet" Nitro Funny Car. After 4 years as Mr. Densham’s crew, they left to form their own partnership.

They built their own engine, modified an existing body and chassis, and campaigned their first of many Alcohol Funny Cars. During their years together, they have won the AHRA Winternationals, won the Night of Fire 500, raced in Canada, and raced the "Last Race" at Baylands, Orange County Int’l Raceway and Lyon’s Drag Strip. The two were also asked to campaign Bryan Raines’ Nitro Funny Car in Australia for a six-week tour in 1979-80. Mr. VanGundy drive the car at 5 events with Mr. Clark as crew chief. Their most recent international experience has been in Japan where they had two races in November 1993 and two races in May 1994. The VanGundy and Clark Race Team currently competes at several NHRA National Events and NHRA Pacific Division 7 races. They also make appearances in at least 2 drag race shows per year.

In addition to their longevity, they are known in the racing community for their solid operation, their consistency, and their overall knowledge of the race cars. They not only build their own engines; they also build chassis’s.

The two have also been able to use their work experience in racing. Mr. Clark is currently the Senior Technical Specialist for American Honda Motor Company. Mr. VanGundy is the Fuels and Emissions Group/Principal Engineer for Honda R&D of North America, Inc. Together they have a combined total of 40 years of service with American Honda Motor Co. Ltd.
