~THE CALL~
When my dad was in the late stages of his cancer, I telephoned the Grand Ole Opry to ask if Mr Roy Acuff could send my dad an autographed photo. I explained to the receptionist how sick my dad was & told her that he loved Mr Acuff & "The Wabash Cannonball." She told me that Mr. Acuff was almost totally blind, but that he still came in everyday to check his mail. She told me she would give him the message & asked where I could be reached. I gave her my parent's telephone number as that was where I spent most of my days at that time.
After I hung up the phone with her, I felt that my request would probably be overlooked because they are so busy there.... But, it was worth a try.
My dad was so sick and nothing brought a smile to his face. All I wanted was to see my dad smile again & nothing we could do would bring that smile to his face.
I remember going to visit him that day within the hour after making the telepone call, but had no intentions of telling him what I had done....
When I arrived at his house, he was sitting in his chair with big ole' tears rolling down his face~! I'll never forget his words~!
He said, "Kaye, he called me~! I knew it was him when I heard that voice~!"
I wasn't quite sure what he meant....but within a few moments, I learned.
Mr. Roy Acuff had taken the time to telephone my dad and talk to him for over 30 minutes~! Also, he offered to bring my parents to the Grand Ole Opry to be his guests, but Dad told him he couldn't make the trip~!
From that day on, my dad would smile each time he'd tell someone about the call from Mr. Roy Acuff....and I formed a special love for Mr Acuff~!
Now, my dad & Mr Roy sing together in the angelic choir in Heaven.
To honor them, I have chosen the Midi Song..."Wabash Cannonball" to play on this page. I hope it brings a smile to
your face & a tap to your feet~!
This rose being carried by this dove
goes out to all of you with all my love~!
Your willingness to share...
to always be there,
Will be carried with me to Heaven above!

The following poem was written for me by a dear friend, Sandra.
Thank you Sandra, for this tribute to our friendship, for it means the world to me.
For My Friend, Kaye
As I sit here with pen in hand,
I will try to put into words
what only you will understand!
I feel in my heart and soul
that on the night we met,
it was to be a memory
I would never forget!
In Glenna's we chatted
until almost dawn.
We had so much in common.
How could we have ever known?
People and places we both knew.
This connection to Minden,
we did not have a clue!
How great it has been to share all this
with someone who knows all the
things that I miss...
We have talked and we have laughed.
Discussed many things.
to the changes in our lives...
that this disease brings.
You fight your battle each and everyday.
Never complain or let it get in your way.
The courage you show is amazing to me.
And how I pray that I might be!
When God calls you home,
with His arms opened wide...
I know, my friend, you
will be standing by His side.
And as you have told me before...
You will be waiting for me at
Heaven's door.
Can't think of any place I'd rather be...
than with my Forever Friend in eternity~!
