Kundapura

 

.          ... is a small town located in the state of Karnataka in South India.It is situated along the     coastalbelt of the Arabian sea.

Some say that town got its name from Kundeshwar temple which is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva
while the other saying is that the name is derived from "Kunda" which means "Jasmine" due to the wonderful fragnant jasmine grown around the area.
The basic land structure is like a peninsula,most of the roads leading to the edge of the river.

Kundapura taluk has a population of about 3,52,000.The language spoken is called Kundapur Kannada and it is essentially restricted in use by people hailing from this taluk.

This region is well frequented by tourists and has excellent transportation facilities. There are a number of beautiful beaches of which the most breathtaking sight is the Marvanthe beach located around 15 km from the town.

Other famous tourist spots comprise of the well known Kollur Mookambika temple situated an hour from from here.Frequent buses are available to the temple town.

For the adventerers there is the Kottachadri Hills which is a good trecking range and a place for bird watchers too.
