Sonic the Hedgehog 2 Review
Sonic the Hedgehog 2

The sequel to the hit Sonic the Hedgehog, and one of the most anticipated games of all time. And it lived up to the name, and more. This one is bigger, better, and faster than the first. Read on for the review!

The Review

Okay, let's get started. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 was the hit sequel to it's older brother, and it bumped up the first in every way. It has more levels, bigger zones, better music and graphics, more variety (can't beat Casino Night Zone!) and best of all, a 2-player mode! That's right, the 2nd player could control Sonic's new buddy, Miles "Tails" Prower! Well, the gameplay's pretty much the same (run, jump, blow up robots and save the animals inside, beat Robotnik) except this time, it's a lot more fun, and there's a twist... In this one, there are 7 Chaos Emeralds, and the Special Stages are much much different (and more fun). But the best part is, if you can manage to get all the Emeralds (which is extremely hard) then you will become the ultimate in power and speed: SUPER SONIC!! He's invincible, he jumps higher, he's faster, and he's a slick new yellow with electrified hair! He picks up speed in a jiffy, and he has his own theme song! By the way, the fastest zone of any Sonic game (except for Sonic Adventure) would have to be in this game. The Chemical Plant has speedways, and you go very very fast. Have fun with this one! Now for the ratings...

Ratings

Graphics: 9.0 - Better than the first, the graphics are much more detailed and colorful.

Sound: 9.0 Better instrumentation, because more of the systems power was used. Great tunes!

Originality: 8.5 - Still keeps the idea of the first, but with some new ideas.

Play Control: 9.0 - Quick response and easy to control.

Gameplay: 10.0 - AWESOME. This game is so much fun, you won't want to put the controller down.

Replay Value: 9.0 - Huge, very difficult, and extremely fun. This game is a great one to come back to even after completing fully! Nothing beats Super Sonic (except for Hyper Sonic in his later games, but leave that to the other reviews).

Challenge: 9.5 - Very difficult. The game is so big, and the Emeralds are very hard to get. Not to mention the final stage you have to fight two bosses and you get NO RINGS. There are about 12 Zones in all, each with 2 Acts, and at the end of every 2nd Act there is a boss.

Overall: 9.5 (may not be the actual average as I usually do it, but this is what I'm giving it.)
