RED'S MUZIK REVIEW
RED'S MUZIK REVIEW

Plain and simple. I will review an album every month. 'Nuff said!!

NOTE: Because I haven't had any reviews for a long ass time, I have decided to to do a triple review this time around. These three CD's are the best ones that I've heard this summer, so here goes....

*MUZIK REVIEW #1 - FATBOY SLIM: YOU'VE COME A LONG WAY BABY*

Well, this was my initial dosage of FBS and I had no clue he was moreless techno based, so I was really surprised, but since I love techno music, I loved it too. This has been my favorite album of the year so far, with numerous tracks that have that "get down with your bad self" feeling to them. The best part about this CD is the fact that the "popular songs" (Funk Soul Brother, Praise You) are most certainly kick ass but the ones that aren't being played on the radio are even better. My favorite track on the disc is track eight, entitled "You're Not From Brighton" which has a major old school feel to it, kinda like an old Digital Underground song with a futuristic feel to it. Also, another track called "Love Island" has some hype beats and groovage to it, enough to dance to it for hours and hours repeatedly and still want more. Only one or two songs are below average, but they are still bearable to listen to. All in all, a great album, much better than his previous work, which I ended up purchasing also soon after I got this one.

*MUZIK REVIEW #2 - SUGAR RAY: 14:59*

The thing I like about Sugar Ray is their diversity in their music. For example, one song might be a hardcore punk song, while the next will be a hip hoppish track, then following that, it might be a slow, melodramatic piece. This fact was completely evident in this album, much better than "Floored" (their previous album). It had just a little bit or everything. Of course, you have the "Every Morning" song, along with their new single "Someday" both great in their own respect. But there is a good half dozen other trememdous songs on this disc, such as "Falls Apart" (punk guitar riffs with but with a rock feel), "Live & Direct" (hip hop with an appearence by KRS-ONE), "Ode to the Lonely Hearted" (Slow tune), "Abracadabra" (Hip hop combined with a rock feel) & "Glory" (punk). With those half dozen good songs, however, there unfortunately are about the same number of throwaway songs. Sure, this isn't their last minutes of fame aren't up yet (which is what is implied by the album title) but they need a solider effort in their next album to stay around in the public eye.

*MUZIK REVIEW #3 - RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS: CALIFORNICATION*

The big "angle", so to speak, from this album is that this is the first one with all of them in a sober state. The Peppers look back on the old days in this one, and some of the CD is a very somber look at it. In fact, generally speaking, this entire CD is very different than what the RHCPs defined themselves at in the past. However, some of that funk is still there, thank god! But, in my opinion, this was the worst Peppers album that I've heard, and I have most of their older work, all the way back to Mother's Milk. I guess you could say though, that they have matured in their music talents, but their crazyness and immaturity was kinda what defined them for me. Sure, don't get me wrong, I'm happy as hell that they have all gone the sober route (especially their returning guitarist, who kicked a really bad herion addiction) but I just wish that they didn't change their style of music. Anyway, I absolutely hate "Scar Tissue", it's just one of those songs that irritates me and it's just too different in my taste for the Chili Peppers. However, the first track on the CD is excellent, entitled "Around the World", and I expect it to be released as a single sooner or later. Also, "Otherside", "Easily", the title track, and a few others rock, so it's not a total failure on a album. My final opinion on it is this, if a band that had just started had made an album like this, it would be great, but becuase the Chili Peppers did it, it kinda sucked because it is a drastic change from their prior works.
